Josh Duhamel says Transformers 4 will star no one from the series

Feb. 16, 2012by: Alex Riviello

In an interview with E! Online TRANSFORMERS star Josh Duhamel revealed that he hasn't been contacted about the fourth film. In fact, it doesn't appear that anyone has.

"I don't think anybody's doing it," Duhamel told the site. "I know Shia [LaBoeuf]'s not doing it. I don't think Tyrese or Rosie [Huntington-Whiteley] or anybody else is doing it."

He's not surprised about the silence, though. "Whenever these movies make that much money they're going to make as many as they can," he said. "[But] I haven't heard anything about it. They haven't called me." After all, the plan now is to reboot the series, and like THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN is proving, that means they can dump all those now-expensive stars and make some new ones.

I know that reboots are popular these days but of all the franchises that needed one, TRANSFORMERS is pretty damn low on the list. No one cares about the story- they just like seeing giant robots beat the crap out of each other. It's not hard to keep coming up with reasons for that to happen.

More on the project as we hear it.

Who the fuck cares if Josh Duhamels character returns or not. I don't even know his name. The character is so bland, cardboard, forgettable.
Didn't this guy have a wife and kid in the first movie? What happened to them? Nothing, because they were just filler and his character wasn't supposed to last three movies.

I have really enjoyed the TF movies...the third one immensely. However, if it continues with the current run (and isn't a reboot), please not another story line about how they had arrived before we first thought they did.

why would they need to reboot the series? I think that would be stupid. I mean it hasn't even been ten years since the first one. Just keep the Transformers voice actors the same, and branch off of what happened in the third one. They don't need any of the original actors for the fourth. Just keep the Transformers the same!

You mean no more Shia Ladouche? Good fucking riddance, no more of the fast talking underdeveloped 30 year old. Ok if humans must be there I vote on the only 2 humans needed. Nicolas Cage and Samuel L. Jackson....wait let me finish.....Nicolas reprising his role from Raising Arizona and Sam reprising his role from Black Snake Moan. Boom.

Reboot?

Or preboot? (The story could start on their home planet and tell the story of why the Autobots fled in the first place.)

We don't need humans in a Transformers movie. We really don't. Our luck the only humans brought back will be Sam's dipshit parents and their fucking dog.

if there's no humans then they might as well not have it be about earth at all.

I hope they have less human characters and develop more characterization for the Autobots. I feel like the secondary autobots, like Ratchet, Sideswipe, Arcee, the ferrari, etc, just appear and disappear and random times in the 2nd and 3rd film.

if no one cares about the story- they just like seeing giant robots beat the crap out of each other -- then a reboot makes total sense. bring in new characters and new robots and let them beat the crap out of each other. seems if that is your argument then nothing about a reboot should be a problem.

Michael bay is the problem

Giant effect driven robots can be made by most directors and in fact they are the reason the franchise has done what it's done. Bays lazy repetitive direction & crap storylines are hat hinders this series...the 2nd & 3rd especially were a huge failure where I counts. Please hand the series off to a person who has real respect for the source material and making a decent storyline

Maybe old casts are gone because Optimus Prime and his team are on road trip to different city, thus different casts. Or maybe a spin-off the NEST team which would explain by Duhamel isn't offered a part in Transformers 4. Just a guess.

People might be taking 'reboot' too literally

New actors doesn't mean it's necessarily starting over. If Bay remains attached to the film then I'm sure stylistically, thematically, whatever - it'll look exactly the same as the others. Which apart from the first were rather crap anyway, right? Not the worst movies ever but having said that, I actually did like LaBeauf in them. No matter what the nerds think, 2.5 hours of dueling robots would get pretty old after a while without some kind of human conflict. I think the mistake was that the

No matter what the nerds think, 2.5 hours of dueling robots would get pretty old after a while without some kind of human conflict. I think the mistake was that the second and third films seemed meandering - the second particularly due to the writers' strike, and the third because I think they focused too much on spectacle to make up for the disappointment of the second one. Whenever you write off entire characters (like Fox's) on a whim, you're losing respect for the story. "What story?" - exactly.

I agree with most of what you said, especially the stuff about LaBeauf. But I have to disagree about the plot in TF3. I thought was a bit better than the first flick and miles ahead of the second. And Fox wasn't written out on a whim, I'm pretty sure Bay just wouldn't work with her anymore...

OK I just read that last line and think I proved your point for you... Disregard:)

Is Michael Bay still doing this? Would it make any sense whatsoever to reboot his own franchise?

I mean, as dumb as a reboot kind of is, I have ZERO interest in seeing LaBeouf, Duhamel, or Tyrese in any of these movies ever again, so I can't really hate.

Forget Shia, and forget rebooting the series. I think a good movie would be just a military based movie. have Dumal and tyrese as the main actors and the military and helping Optimus and the gang track down the remaining survivors of the last movie. thats all it would have to be. Plus I think it would be cool to see more military action than shia running around.

I thought the first trilogy was okay, so a reboot doesn't really bother me. The only way I could get excited is if they did Beast Wars, but I doubt that would be the case.

They don't need to reboot, reharsh, reimagine or whatever the hell they're calling these days, just tell another story. There are plenty to go around. It's not like I'm watching Transformers to see any oscar performance anyway.

These movies have been terrible thus far. The second one is one of the worst films I have ever seen. Completely inept in every way. The third was a mess too, but not as insulting. In any event, I don't expect the characterization or dialog or acting to improve, but I do hope they revamp the robot designs. They are fucking awful. Every time there is a major fight with more than one transformer it looks like someone blew up a Radio Shack. Just a jumbled mess. The designs are overly complicated

The designs are overly complicated and it makes it really difficult to know or care what the hell is going on during any of the action sequences. Simply improving this aspect would improve these movies a good deal. And for Christ's sake, whatever you do, do not give them genitals. I'm still amazed I saw a Decepticon's sack in real time.

I agree with you at some level...I think the autobots are fine mainly because you can tell them apart...can't say the same thing about the Decepticons.

I agree for the most. I have enjoyed the mindless action in the ongoing series. The 1st was horrible with the robots though, you could barely tell what the hell was going on. All in all when we break it down. It's still a movie about toys. If they want to reboot it. Just make a live action Transformers The Animated Movie.

Good!! Keep Peter Cullen as Prime and bring on Unicron. I'd like to see the Quintessons and Magnus and Hot Rod this time around. Even better yet, do the movie somewhere else other than Earth.
