M:I3 gathers Moss

04.20.2004

I didn't think MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 3 was to the point where it was ready to be cast considering the myriad delays the film has seen but today the first new cast member has been announced. Carrie-Anne Moss has signed on to play the female lead opposite Tom Cruise in M:I3 Ving Rhames, who appeared in the first two MISSION films, is the only other cast member confirmed to be starring in the project. The project has had a long development stretching back to 2002 when David Fincher was attached to direct. Last year Fincher dropped out and was replaced by Joe Carnahan, who directed the Cruise-produced NARC. Various iterations of the script have included drafts by Dean Georgaris, Robert Towne, Dan Gilroy and Frank Darabont. It appears at this point that Darabont will have the final polish on the shooting script. Filming is expected to begin this summer for a 2005 release. No word yet on what the plot will entail but back when Fincher was involved there were rumors of Ethan Hunt tracking down people involved in the illegal trade of transplant organs. Considering the amount of rewrites, that plot has probably been chucked. Cruise can be seen next in the Michael Mann film COLLATERAL this October.
