New Line to Journey a third time in 2014

Mar. 6, 2012by: Alex Maidy

Whoops, wrong Journey!

Looks like the $275 million and growing box office for JOURNEY 2: THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND has guaranteed a third go round for the franchise.  New Line has locked in director Brad Peyton and screenwriters Brian and Mark Gunn for the film tentatively set for a 2014 release.

The first JOURNEY felt like a direct to video quality movie dressed up to cash in on the 3D fad.  JOURNEY 2 definitely had better effects but still lacked the quality I would like to see in a kid-oriented action movie.  Definitely a step up from SPY KIDS, but not quite there yet.  Let's hope that Dwayne Johnson returns for the next film.  That guy can make pretty much anything entertaining.

Extra Tidbit: Director Brad Peyton also graced us with the classic CATS & DOGS: THE REVENGE OF KITTY GALORE

I like to see non kiddy versions of Jules Verne's novels.

The first one was one of the first wide theatrical release SHOT in 3D, BEFORE Avatar, BEFORE the 3D fad... And was FAR from being as bad as you pretend. A nice FAMILY fun film, the second one being a KID film.
YEP, I enjoyed both of them for what they are, and I'm happy for a third one (the whole "my father left when I was a kid" speech from The Rock is an obvious open door to introduce another sub-plot for JOURNEY 3).

The only way I can see this working is if they change the title of a classic piece of literature: Journey 3: Thousand Leagues Under the Sea.

I wasn't even aware there was a first movie. Was it just called "Journey"?

If The Rock doesn't come back and they keep re-casting the Big Male Lead, I vote Vin Diesel for the third film.

Why the hate on Spy Kids ?

This is the second time today (after the C'Mon Hollywood column) that people are hating on Spy Kids. Agreed, number 4 looked like a big pile of fresh pony turd, and number 3 should have ruined Stallone's reputation. But 1 and 2 are pretty solid (if you can stand the sometimes weird Rodriguez eccentricities).

Moon rocks

Or The Rock on the moon, "From Here to the Moon" may be the next half-assed adaptation.
