Vadim drops Talisman

05.03.2004

Director Vadim Perelman has left the DreamWorks adaptation of Stephen King and Peter Straub's novel THE TALISMAN. The project was to be Perelman's follow-up to his Academy Award nominated debut THE HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG but has left due to creative differences. DreamWorks released a statement saying, "The decision was mutual to part ways on the project. The studio remains committed to finding the best team for a film of this scope." Producer Steven Spielberg optioned the rights to the book way back in the 80s and has been trying to get a film adaptation of the ground ever since. Could this be the move that could finally convince Spielberg to direct the ambitious project? Possibly, but probably not. Spielberg's got a very busy schedule that includes THE RIVALS, WAR OF THE WORLDS and INDIANA JONES 4. The studio has already put the project out to other directors so expect a replacement to be named posthaste. No word on what Perelman might focus his attention on instead.
