MOVIE POLL: What did you think about Dark Shadows?

What did you think about Dark Shadows?

Great fun!
Was okay.
Nothing like the original show.
Hated it!
Depp was the best thing, as usual.
Skipped it, the previews looked goofy and/or unappealing.
Huh? I was busy seeing The Avengers again!

bad times

hated it, just as rubbish as the last few outing we have had from these two money grabbing has-beens.

Saw it today...

I wanted to like it... I really did. And everyone did what they could, but overall... I was bored. Just plain bored. Too bad.

I thought it was entertaining but ultimately forgetable, like most tv shows turned to movies. I've never seen an episode of the show, so I'm not sure if that was a plus or a negative.

Depp was great, the rest of the movie, not so much. It's like they couldn't decide what kind of movie they were making and the script was just bad.

I saw it and actually liked it. The two main roles with Depp and Green were done pretty damn well. The supporting cast pretty much fell short though, mainly because the script didn't allow them to be creative enough and I felt Chloe Moretz had too try to hard for her role. Depp I thought did an awesome job. He played the role perfectly in my opinion. He wasn't over the top like I was afraid he would be. I really enjoyed the movie but the third act really brought the movie down I felt. Still

I enjoyed it a hell of a lot more than Alice in Wonderland, that's for damn sure.

It was...ok. Better than I was expecting, but I was expecting nothing short of a embarrassing disaster, so that's not necessarily high praise.

Most problematic: it could not decide whether it wanted to be serious, a broad comedy, or a black comedy. I think it was one of the most tonally frustrating movies I have seen in a while.

And yeah, it didn't make sense. Plot contrivances like WOAH. I don't want to spoil anything but...that werewolf. What the what?

Burton has directed four good movies and twenty shitty ones. How is he still directing? How many terrible flops does he have to make before he's (rightfully) forced to make straight to DVD movies? Geniuses like John Carpenter and Paul Verhoven have a much better track record, and those guys are struggling to get mainstream work now days.

Really? To each his own, I guess.
I haven't seen Dark Shadows but I'd say he's directed 9 good to great films (Pee Wee, Beetlejuice, Batman, Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow, Big Fish, Corpse Bride, & Sweeney Todd) and maybe 3 stinkers (Planet of the Apes, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory and Alice in Wonderland).

That's not too bad of a track record but he definitely needs to do something original next and, please, leave Depp and Carter out of it for a change.

IT WAS OK ...

... and that is bad considering it was a Tim Burton movie. Eva Green was the best thing in the movie, but release date was a total failure, who thought this could beat The Avengers?

Eva Green clearly had a lot of fun hamming it up and damn she is sexy (that scene in the red dress!)Johnny Depp did a fine job but they couldn't save it from the pedestrian script. Very disappointing.

The plot was all over the place. Depp was fine in his typical weird role, but the movie made no sense.
