This behind the scenes image from Prometheus shows us a character not in the theatrical cut of the film

Jun. 18, 2012by: Alex Maidy

PROMETHEUS opened only ten days ago in the United States, so I will still play it safe with the spoilers for those of you who have not seen it yet. If you haven't, what the f*** are you waiting for??

For those of you who have seen the film, you know the opening sequence features one of the Engineers sacrificing himself on what is assumed to be a prehistoric Earth. This Engineer as well as the one in the climax of the film look very similar which lead me to assume they all looked pretty much identical.

John O'Connor from effects house Creatures, Inc. revealed a huge number of behind the scenes images featuring the Engineers on Facebook a few days ago. They are a very cool look at the creation of both the Engineer prosthetics as well as the space jockey outfit we see them wearing at the end of the film. But, one image has been making the rounds online as it features a completely different Engineer that was not in the theatrical cut of the film.

This new character has been unofficially dubbed the Elder Engineer based on his obvious difference in appearance. He looks older and his robes appear to have some embellishment to them, possibly signifying superiority. Does this character have more than just this one brief appearance? When our very own JimmyO asked Ridley Scott if a director's cut of the film would be released, he indicated that only deleted scenes would be added as a bonus, not integrated into the movie.

I really liked PROMETHEUS but feel that there was a lot left untapped. I hope that we do get a sequel to the film showing Shaw reach the Engineer's home world. While I think the movie stands well by itself, I would love to see this level of detail and quality in another film.

Extra Tidbit: Am I the only one who thinks Charlize Theron's character was incredibly under-used?

Regardless of what critics are saying (which really dumbfounds me), any film that generates this much conversation and speculation is a massive success imho. I didn't see a frenzy of bloggers analyzing every detail of Starship Troopers or Riddick. I'll take thought-provoking over mind-numbing any day.

I don't want there to be a sequel. I do now, but I didn't. I went to see the movie thinking, this is it! and now its more like, WELL THAT WAS JUST A TEASE. Thanks? I rather have my money back, wait for a sequel if there is one. Watch the blu-ray, and see the second in theaters. Cause now I just have questions.

Hope there is a Director's cut. I loved this movie, and thought it was perfect to leave out the answers in my opinion, but don't mind answers either though.

The only reason for Theron and Pearce's characters were for the plot device of having the lifeboat with the med table available for Shaw to use. It was a deplorable waste of two great actors, and could have been filled by anyone looking for a paycheck.

Charlize in a Box

Yes she really was just in the ship for most of it and had no real relevant story arc. I would have even appreciated an R rated love scene with her and the pilot. Also, can anyone help me? Why is everyone so sure the opening is Earth- I swear there was a shot of a huge waterfall on the film's planet back in the trailers? Probably my own stupidity but I thought it was the planet most of the film takes place on.

Because Ridley Scott said it was supposed to be a scene of the Engineers seeding a planet. Not necessarily the Earth.

SPOILER***

Why didn't Charlize just turn and run to the side. That's all she had to do. Shaw did it.

I keep hearing this complaint - but in the moment, who knows what would be going through your head. Logic isn't always the same to someone in a dire situation. I don't know why everyone has such a beef with that scene.

While flying to the alien home world Shaw should put David back together. Then when they arrive and meet more engineers. One of them should rip David's head off again, and beat Shaw to death with it. Credits. That'd be hilarious.

I'm sure the deleted scenes will be alot more helpful when watching this movie again.

The movie was great but I think a sequel could further benefit the origins of this film.
