Today's reviews from the Cannes Film Festival represent a film that I happened to catch through a "market screening" (which are screenings set up mainly for buyers to see certain upcoming films, in order to purchase them for distribution in their respective countries) and the first anime film to ever be nominated as an "official" selection for the main prize at Cannes, the Palme D'Or. The films are, respectively, the documentary based on the last few years in the life of one of the most popular heavy metal bands in the world entitled METALLICA: SOME KIND OF MONSTER and the follow-up to one of the biggest anime successes of all-time called GHOST IN THE SHELL 2: INNOCENCE. For the record, one of these films was the worst film that I have seen thus far at this year's festival and included dozens upon dozens of people walking out of the screening. I wanted to walk out myself, but I was also falling asleep, so it was a tough call. In the end, I think I made the right decision.

BTW, one of my newfound buddies ran into director Paul Verhoeven on the street today and spoke to him for a few minutes. As expected, the man was apparently: One Class Act. BTW, thanks to everyone who's been sending me nice emails over the past week or so about the coverage. It's greatly appreciated and keep 'em coming. Now, on with the show...
