Pfffffff....

As much as I love cinema and as much as I greatly enjoy joblo.com, this "poll" is tasteless, idiotic and completely uncalled for. Sorry guys.

What's with this poll? You might as well say Jodie Foster is responsible for Reagan's assassination attempt. Come on.

I wonder why this guy did it. I also wonder why everyone condemns this poll and the act itself. A horrible event? Surely, but people are murdered every day of the week by unmanned drones, most of which are operated by the US of A. Nearly half of all women who join the military are sexually assaulted at some point during their service. Child kidnapping and forced prostitution are a a constant problem. This was shitty thing that happened but there are dozens of other things that happen everyday

This was shitty thing that happened but there are dozens of other things that happen everyday and what the hell do most of us care about them? Relatively little because it is indeed all part of the plan. We're used to those horrible acts but when the media latches itself onto something like this it gives all us great citizens a chance to voice our outrage, real or otherwise, and then go back to our regularly scheduled programming. The priority at this point should be why he did this. This was a human being, and a fairly well educated one, that felt the need to murder these people. To simply say he was a dick or crazy is not enough. Most psychopaths are not born, they're made.

True, but I highly doubt that the shooter would have dressed as the Joker and claimed to be the Joker if he had done this anywhere else.

Confused by the reactions

I'm confused by the negative reaction to this. Joblo.com is a movie fan website and this is a legit movie question. It isn't asking if you think the movie will lose movie over this. They are only asking if their members will still go see it. What exactly is wrong with that?

If the take away from this tragedy is that you're curious as to how the visitors/members of your site feel about the movie and going to see it - then some people are finding that to be in poor taste. Add to that the "generosity" of prepackaging how people feel about it into a poll (yes, I'm aware there's an "other" option). It's pretty unambiguous what people are reacting to.

I'm sorry JoBlo, but I have to agree with the masses below. This poll is in bad taste. As much as I love the Batman movies and as much as I loved TDKR, this is much bigger than any of that and should not concern the movie whatsoever. This tragedy should be treated as an act of pure coincidence. Warner pulling prints would imply that they're giving in to the fuckstain who did this. No, prints should run. People should go see this. Make no connection between the film and the tragedy. NEVER give

Honor them by giving no attention whatsoever to the asshole who so obviously wanted attention in a sick, psychotic way. He does not deserve to be associated with anything film related, because obviously he lacks any intelligence that goes into making any film.

And to the guy who caused this tragedy...I hope you rot from the inside. I hope you die a sad, lonely lil' boy who lacked love and affection...and I hope as you bleed out you understand and regret your actions and then die in agonizing pain as you realize that there's not a single soul in this world who will miss your sorry, ugly ass.

I'm sickened by what happened...

This sick twisted individual has turned what should've been a great night for many hundreds of thousands of people into a tragedy. I really feel for the people effected by this, and I can't even begin to fathom what they are going though. That being said, I really hope that it doesn't have any effect on the film itself. The actions of this bastard should not be rewarded. Even if, by some stretch of the imagination, he was somehow motivated by the Batman villains or Christopher Nolan's work

The actions of this bastard should not be rewarded. Even if, by some stretch of the imagination, he was somehow motivated by the Batman villains or Christopher Nolan's work as a whole to commit this act, then he is clearly a mentally ill person who should not have been fit to live in society long before the actions last night. Refusal to see this film, either from fear or respect for the victims, would only really punish the filmmakers and all of the people who worked so hard to make this the best film possible. If anything, it would in a way reward the person responsible, who by telling the police that he "was the Joker," was clearly trying to inspire fear the way the villain did in the last film. I honestly don't think this guy is crazy, but some sick sadistic human being who saw this as a way to act out some sick fantasy and then hide behind a veil of insanity as a defense. I hope at the very least he never sees the light of day again for the rest of what, if there's any justice in this world, will be a very short miserable life.

Fox News has taken to calling this tragic event "The Batman Massacre". This clumsily and bluntly implies some sort of causal link between the films and the mass shooting, and nobody should jump to such conclusions so early or perpetuate this notion.

The films are not peoples top priority at the moment, sorry. 12 people were senselessly murdered, so Batman fanboyism and its legacy are going to have to be put on the back burner. I'm sure you wouldn't be as concerned if this all happened somewhere different and people were calling it "The Madea Massacre".

Hi Kevin, thank you for the reply - I definitely agree with what you said, and I was thinking "what would happen if this happened at any other movie"? The thing is, "The Madea Massacre" or "The Madagascar Massacre" would be just as horrific and just as if not even more wrong but would not carry that sensationalist sting Fox News was looking for. The killer targeted a crowded public event and called himself the "Joker" and the audience thought it was part of the film, so it is callously easy to

It is not about tarnishing the name of Batman or anything like that really, I agree that it is such a small priority compared to an event like this. It's that the media is capitaIising on this association and disrespecting the victims and their families. I do not feel that this is fervent fanboyism speaking.

You hear yourselves saying this, right?

I already caught a midnight showing last night, so I guess none of those apply. But for the record, I don't believe WB should pull prints of the film from theaters. It was a tragedy, yes, but it could have happened anywhere. This was just a psycho who knew his best chances to do damage would be at one of the most packed midnight premieres of the year.

I have already viewed TDKR since I attended a marathon screening of all three Nolanverse Bat films (with TDKR being a 12:01 showing and didn't hear about the shootings until I woke up earlier today.

It is a horrible tragedy and I can only imagine the amount of talk that will be thrown around about Columbine and gun control and the wonder of Nolan's smashing work in completing the trilogy will continue to be marred for time yet to come.

The people who suffered at the midnight screening because of that psychotic ahole were obvious fans of cinema and The Dark Knight trilogy being there at midnight. They wanted to see it and I'm sure they would want others to go see it too and honor the trilogy, cinema, and those who were unable to see it that tragic night.

Honestly not trying to be callous here, but how much more should a movie ticket be to pay for security in the
1: 100,000,000 chance you'll get shot in a mass shooting in a movie theater? Divide the number of tickets sold in a year by the number of shooting victims at a movie theater and I might be overestimating the risk, even. It would be as useful as carrying around anti-shark spray.

Not to be callous, but your average film goer would be more upset about the movie getting delayed a couple of months than the killing itself.

Random psycho shoots up a movie theater. What's the moral? What lesson is there to learn, exactly? Do a better job of keeping guns out of the hands of the mentally unstable, perhaps? This is senseless death with no hope of justification or reason. At least a terrorist usually has a freaking reason. Life sucks sometimes.

Honor them

I think it is incumbent on all of us to not Let this scare you from enjoying the things you love doing. The best way to resolve this is enjoy yourself and remember those unfortunate victims who lost their lives trying to enjoy themselves. This film should and most likely will be dedicated to those victims. Above all continue to live your lives because this is no body's fault but that young man who committed this tragedy. "No...I'm not scared....I'm angry".

I saw it last night and I am planning on seeing it again. An incident like this should never force people to start behaving differently. Should we have stopped going to school after Columbine or stopped attending college courses after Virginia Tech? No. I admit I was nervous the first time flying after 9/11 but that was done by a whole terrorists network . This was done by one little piece of shit with a sadistic imagination. Don't let him win. Pulling the film from theaters would be Warner Brothers agreeing that TDKR had something to do with inspiring this man, which it most certainly did not. This could have happened at a Twilight, LOTR, Harry Potter, or any other big name franchise screening but it just so happened to be Batman. Don't blame the movie, blame the idiot who did this.

In no way should the tragedy affect how the film is handled. This was not Batman inspired. This was a guy knowing where there'd be a lot of people collected. You can't fight crazy. Pulling the movie, editing the movie, altering it in anyway only shows that crazy disturbed people can and will compromise our own integrity. And that lets the bad guys win.

Mass, Spree, Serial.

Last nights tragic events marred the experience of many moviegoers in Colorado, but as a whole the world will move on and people will continue to enjoy the movie. I totally agree that giving this guy a nickname is an insult to the Batman legacy and the intelligence of comic book fans the world over. This individual will not be remembered beyond the peoples lives he has touched, and even then it will fade with time (I speak from experience as a close relative was brutally murdered when I was

This individual will not be remembered beyond the peoples lives he has touched, and even then it will fade with time (I speak from experience as a close relative was brutally murdered when I was 13). He won't be included in a history book and won't even be a footnote in a textbook on spree and serial killers. He is just another in a line of idiots with half a brain that don't think through what they are doing; assuming that the world will finally recognize then. Well, you have been recognized, and minutes later I can't even remember your name.
Thoughts and prayers go out to the families that are dealing with loss on this tragic day.

Already seen it

However, I may not be going back to see any other opening night films, it's just too juicy a target.

You're talking about 200-500 people sitting together in the dark not paying attention to anything but the movie, oblivious to their surroundings.

I'm shocked this hasn't happened already.

While I whole heartedly believe in the right to bare arms, this country needs to enforce that right with greater levels of control. Gun owners should have to go through hardcore background screening, along with having to take an exam to determine the metal health of the person. Also a place like that should have metal detectors. With the cost of movie tickets they theater companies should have better forms of security then teenaged ticket

And as a past usher I can say that when youíre pulling apart tickets youíre looking for hot girls, people you know and trying to make sure your boss is nowhere to be found. Youíre not looking for automatic weapons.

One thing I'm sick of is hearing people comparing this asshole to Joker. Don't give him that kind of credit, he's a cowardly jackass who had to ruin everyone's good time in order to get attention for a weekend. What he needs is a severe beating and a look in the mirror at the waste he really is. The last thing he deserves is to be compared to a criminal mastermind, which he is not. He's just some ill-tempered shithead setting up Home Alone traps like a kid, who shouldn't have had access to a

Glad I got to let that out, but seriously, what a cunt.

I agree. He probably thinks he's some kind of Joker or Bane, but he's not. He's not even a Zsasz. He's an evil little shit, that's all.

I think they should pull the ads, which they have. But pulling the film is not what you do, because this is basically a terrorist act and that is what the d-bag wants, fear and anger. I'm not going to stop going to malls because of the Toronto mall shooting. And they didn't stop having rallies after the Gabby Giffords shooting.

Saw it last night and there were no issues. Everyone had a great time. Just because one nut job comes out and does an unspeakable act, doesn't mean it should deter anyone else from enjoying themselves.

Other than being a member of the family/friends of the victims and the injured, who right now must be deeply traumatized, I don't see a reason why we shouldn't watch the movie and even enjoy ourselves. Tragedies happen all over the world basically every other day. We can't think about it 24/7

Things may get ugly now

While I firmly beleive this is not the movies fault and no screenings should be stopped, I have a feeling if this goes mainstream there will be problems. [link]

Does anyone recall the Springsteen song, Nebraska ? It was based on the killing spree of Charles Strarkweather & Carol Anne Fugate across Nebraska & Wyoming. The final line is the narrator being asked a reason for the killings before his execution, and he replies, 'Well sir I guess there's just a meaness in this world'. I think those words are something which we as a society need to keep in mind before purporting to fear baiting.

Not the movie's fault

The movie had nothing to do with it, the killer obviously wanted a high body count for whatever reason the voices in his head or whatever dicated and he picked this one. He knew the theater would be packed. The movie should not be blamed for this or connected to the incident. I think the fact that the news make point to mention which movie was showing during the shooting is just the wrong and completely irrelevant.

This is one of those tragedies where its nothing more than being in the wrong place at the wrong time. When someone goes crazy and wants to hurt someone they will find a way to accomplish that goal. It's silly to try and change your life habits based on what might happen. Thats how terrorists work, its not so much the act itself but the fear it inspires which gets you to change your behavior. So go out, and enjoy the movie. Always be aware of your surroundings but never live in fear. By the

While this is indeed a horrible tragedy, it won't be affecting my desire to still see this movie. The media & others need to realize it probably had nothing to do the movie itself. Let's not blow anything too out of proportion. Which is exactly what the media always does when it comes to these type of tragedies. People still need to hold themselves responsible for how they react & use their own judgments. I for one never let the media & others influence any decision. Yes this was a horrific

Just when it comes to moments like this in the U.S everyone always wants results before actions.

The shooting has soured my memories of last night. While I was enjoying myself, probably around the time I was walking out, some poor innocents were being gunned down.

Telling WB to pull the prints is absurd. Tragedy happens, but it doesn't happen because of a particular movie. The movie is going to be forever tainted by this and I feel that that's really unfair, because the movie is totally irrelevant in what happened. That guy just wanted a big group of people in a confined space, he didn't want to kill a bunch of Batman fans.

That's a shame. Not that targeting fans is any worse or better than random violence, it's just a shame in that it will forever be associated with the flick.

To pull the movie would be a tremendous mistake. This person didn't commit the crime because of the movie, he used the movie as an opportunity to commit his crime. People should go see the movie. To live in fear is foolish because anything can happen at anytime. People should go and see the movie, enjoying it because that is what movies are. Live our lives because if we do not, we lose ourselves.

If anything this just makes me more determined to see the film this weekend. Ironically this is sorta the point to Nolan's films isn't it? We cannot let psychopaths dictate our lives with fear.

On the one hand, I don't want "terrorism" to win, by being scared away from the movies, but I can't in good conscience go out and enjoy this film in theaters, knowing that it indirectly led to the loss of 12 innocent lives and the horrific disruption of nearly 60 others. I would call this weekend a wash and hope to recoup next weekend and beyond, not worry about "opening weekend" numbers this go around.

This shouldn't deter anyone, it could have easily happened at any other event. It's a horrible tragedy but life goes on. There's no question though that this event has made us all a bit sick in the stomach as it should.

Can we not have a poll for this? I think commenting on the news article is sufficient.
