Do you think Paul Verhoeven's Total Recall still holds up?

Absolutely! Love that movie!
It's sort of fun in a campy kind of way...
Loved it then, can't stand it now
Didn't even like it to begin with
I've never actually seen it

Does it still hold up? You bet your ass it does. Still great effects & visuals well before the days of CGI. It's fun & campy with great one liners. Sure the new one seems more serious in tone but we will always have Ahnuld & Verhoeven"s version to cherish. I still remember being 13 & seeing this in theaters & being mind blown.

i remember it as a kid

i remember this movie as a kid and i was thinking it was the typical Arnold sci-fi action movie. I thought it was campy even when i was 5 and compared it to "Last Action Hero". But since they started working on the remake, i hear everyone raving about this movie. So i went and rewatched it now, as an older and more opininated film-goer. I hated it. I hated every cheesey line and set peice. I hated how the story could be both incoherient and predictable. I hated how it relied on violent over

I hated the acting and the dialogue. I cant imagine why anyone would like this movie. That being said, the remake does look "better" than the original and i wouldnt mind seeing it on dvd in the future.

Totall Recall was late 80´s entertainment and therfore loud, violent and corny. However the story was well told, the acting was fine and the action set pieces original and fun. I could come up with more arguments for this movie, but quite honest I think you´re just talking this movie down to get a reaction from the fans, otherwise I can´t understand why you wold prefer a glossy, soulless remake by Wiseman to an original funride by Verhoeven.

I still love it...

If you look at the time this movie was made and the technology that was there, it is an amazing film. I in fact HATE Colin Farrel and think that is version of it will be along the lines of the elm street remake.

It's good

But when you stack it up to something like Predator - you can see it's not quite Arnold's A game. It's a cheesy movie, but we seem to have lost the art of making good cheesy movies. The remake coming out will probably be better in some ways, but I'm sure will be taking itself too seriously.

I just watched it yesterday (for the very first time!)...

And yeah, it definitely holds up with today's sci-fi movies. Maybe the set pieces and the Mars scenes could use an update, but as a pure mindbending sciencefiction with a fantastically primed Arnold as the lovable leading man and trademark Verhoeven violence, I'm sorry it took me THIS LONG to catch up with this film. Plus I was really caught off guard with how much in uhh, "unschwarzeneggerian" way Schwarzenegger acted here.... He's just a normal friendly person who's really bewildered with

Plus I was really caught off guard with how much in uhh, "unschwarzeneggerian" way Schwarzenegger acted here.... He's just a normal friendly person who's really bewildered with everything he's thrown into (though the awesome oneliners are still there), I LOVED his performance. Not to mention all the weirdly little funny moments (ex. johnny cab scenes, Arnold's messed up mask face) made it much more than just another Arnold action movie. I have to say, Colin Farrell has some very big shoes (literally & figuratively) to fill. And the trailers I've seen, makes the remake seem just a conventional sci-fi movie, devoid of ALL the funny, violant stuffs and relying solely on special effects and PG-13 action. Who knows, maybe my preconception is totally wrong, and the storyline will be as mindfucking and intriguing as the original. But I'm not holding my breath.
