The Latest Announcements

Jersey Girl - August/September

On his message board at his official site, Kevin Smith said that we can expect two releases of the Jersey Girl DVD: "The first release is the theatrical cut, with extras that include one or two commentary tracks (we're not sure yet), some behind-the-scenes shorts (which you probably saw on Starz or Bravo), and five "Roadside Attractions" (yeah, I know - what does "Roadside Attractions" have to do with "Jersey Girl"? I don't know; ask Harvey)."

We would, but we're afraid he'll eat us.

"The next release (probably a year or so down the road) will be the first cut of the movie, with more Ollie/Gertrude background and whatnot, as well as all the music that we cut out or replaced."

He gave the tentative release date as "August 25th" or "Could be Sept/Oct." but he said not to quote him, so we won't.

A kinder, gentler, rounder Wolverine

The Ladykillers - September 14

No, this isn't a biopic on my Uncle Pedro and his gang of super-pimps; it's Tom Hanks being funny and Marlon Wayans being the polar opposite (his only redeeming role in the emotion-raper of a movie, Requiem for a Dream).

Includes:

  • The Slap Reel - outtakes
  • Gospel of The Ladykillers - deleted music scenes
  • Danny Ferrington: The Man Behind the Band - featurette
  • The Ladykillers Script Scanner - DVD-ROM feature
  • 1.85:1 anamorphic Widescreen
  • Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround

Also look for a funny (and foreign) Tom Hanks to star in the upcoming flick The Terminal, directed by Steven Spielberg. Both have already received Oscars for it. From Buena Vista Home Entertainment $29.99

Marlon Wayans, scolded for thinking he's funny

THX 1138: Director's Cut - September 14

Someone get George Lucas a tranny hooker and some pot because he is seriously tripping in his old age. As per usual, Lucas is adding a bunch of stuff that he didn't think about at the time into this newly restored edition that is packed with a bunch of special features and, in all honesty, a pretty kick ass cover.

Includes:

  • Commentary with George Lucas and co-writer/sound designer Walter Murch
  • Theatre of Noise - Isolated sound effects track
  • Master sessions with Walter Murch
  • A Legacy of Filmmakers: The Early Years of American Zoetrope - a documentary featuring Lucas, Coppola, Duvall, Scorsese, Milius and others
  • Artifact from the Future: The Making of THX 1138 - documentary
  • Electronic Labyrinth TXH 1138:4EB - The original student film
  • Bald - Classic production featurette
  • Original Theatrical Trailer
  • Anamorphic Widescreen transfer
  • Dolby Digital 5.1

Someone told me I should be excited about this. I think they were lying. From Warner Home Video $26.95

Notables

Eurotrip: Todd Phillips hated this because it ripped off Road Trip's story; forgetting that Road Trip ripped off Overnight Delivery's story. Neither age well. 6/1

Trainspotting (CE): Buy this or Begby will break his mug on your face. 6/1

Summer School: Funny, over-looked 80's movie with a dog named Wonderbutt. 6/1

Dukes of Hazzard (S1): For your inner hillbilly. 6/1

Mystic River: The Man With No Name directs; Ebby "The Nuke" and Spicoli star and get Oscars for it. 6/8

Predator (CE): Has been delayed from July 20th to August 10th.

Matrix 9-Disc Box Set? Let's hope so/not. You decide. (Details to come)

Seinfeld Season 1-3? I take it those residuals are running thin. (Details to come)
