I think TDKR has received so much flak from movie fans because the expectations for it were set so high. Besides the X-Men films and Raimi's first two spider-man films, I've never been that impressed with anything that Marvel has done. The Avengers was a welcome surprise, but it's just a popcorn movie to me. IMO, I actually have more fun watching movies that have a bit more depth to them these days. Afterall, explosions and characters smashing things tend to get a bit old after the thousandth

Very weak & lackluster summer, so ya my pic would be The Avengers, althought i did like TDKR, Amazing Spider-Man was better than expected, ya i even liked Prometheus. Still have not seen Ted or EXP2 yet.

The Expendables 2

Avengers was amazing, but Expendables 2 was way better than I ever thought it'd be. Such a fun flick! I'll probably watch EX2 more often on Blu-ray (partially because Avengers is so much longer).

Amazing Spiderman was much better then I thought it would. TDKR was a bit of a let down.

The Dark Knight Rises

Avengers was a damn fun time at the pictures, but for me, I left the theatre feeling more satisfied with TDKR than Avengers. In all honesty, the one flaw that knocked Avengers out of the top spot for me was the fact that they completely wasted Renner. He was the one element of the film that I was really excited about, so I ended up sort of disappointed with they way he was depicted. TDKR, however, delivered everything I was expecting and then some.

Avengers by a mile

TDKR is not even in my top 10. The 3rd movie curse is alive and well. History will not be kind to it.

Prior to the summer releases, The Dark Knight Rises was my one and only. But, after a somewhat disappointing conclusion, I have to give it to The Avengers.

The Avengers

The Avengers was so much fun and didn't take itself seriously. The Dark Knight was too stupid. Like really, JGL found out Batman's identity because he could "see" through his troubled orphan expression? Give me a fucking break.

I understand some of you liked Prometheus.
But Its false-philosophical story, which led nowhere (but to a sequel) took away my enjoyment form this otherwise well-directed, well-casted movie.

THE AVENGERS

The most fun i had at the theater this summer and the only movie i went to see more than once,to me it's the perfect summer movie and raises the bar for other superhero movies to come.
The amazing spider-man is close behind followed by the dictator, ted and the campaign,so not only a great summer for superhero movies but also a great summer for R rated comedies.

I wanted to say DKR, but The Avengers still just barely edges it. The Avengers was so much damn fun, I can't remember having so much fun in the theater in a long time. It's an amazing movie as far as summer blockbusters go. DKR is almost as fantastic a film, but it's holes stick out just a little more. I think I also had more expectations for DKR than I did with Avengers, so Avengers ended up being a pleasant surprise, while DKR didn't quite reach my expectations. Both, however, have made up

It's really hard to choose between The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises. I'm a Batman fan but for this I'd have to go with The Avengers. It's more fun to watch.

2012: Year of the Marvel

Although I am a HUGE Batman fan and did really enjoy The Dark Knight Rises, I think The Avengers really won me over the most this year. It's just a sight to see all the superheros come together (with their original actors - well except for The Hulk but who cares!)

The Avengers
The Dark Knight Rises
The Amazing Spiderman
Ted
Prometheus

These are the ONLY movies I saw this summer. The rest are just DVD watches for me.

Ted
Killer Joe
MIB III : The 3D was phenomenal and actually managed to freshen up an unwanted franchise with some old school Amblin story development

I am amazed "TDKR" is (barely but still) beating "The Avengers". "TDKR" was lackluster and had too many plotholes.

The Avengers/ Beasts Of The Southern Wild (They are both great in very different ways)
Brave
MIB3

Those are my picks for the best films of the summer.

ParaNorman

Not only is it my favorite movie of the summer, it's my favorite of the year so far. It really sets a benchmark that every single animated movie will struggle to surpass for the next few years. Pixar and Dreamworks, eat your heart out.

I can't understand why you were thumb downed for that comment...
Even though I don't think PARANORMAN is THE best film of the year, it is ONE OF THEM definitely !
And its mix of action, horror, humour and emotions is almost perfectly balanced.

I loved both Avengers and Dark Knight Rises (even have a soft spot for Abe Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, I still can't explain that one) but I gave my vote to Avengers. Never before has a movie made me go back 3 times and had me smile so much as that movie. For me it was the perfect summer matinee movie.

I knew this vote would come down to the big three (Avengers, Expendables 2, and The Dark Knight). I'm glad all three of those movies are getting a lot of love.

For me, The Dark Knight Rises closely followed by The Expendables 2 and Prometheus. Avengers is something of a runner-up, because that kicked ass, too.

Its a toss up between Dark Knight Rises and Avengers. Both are great for different reasons, and its hard to choose between the two. On one hand, Avengers was one of the best "Marvel Phase one" films, whereas I didn't quite like TDKR as much as Batman Begins or TDK, but still thought it was great. On the other hand, I've always been more of a Batman fan so TDKR got my vote.

The Avengers and TDRK easily stood out amongst the sea of disappointing blockbusters this year. If I had to pick between the two, it'd probably TDKR, by a hair.
