The Latest Announcements

Criterion Collection: Slacker - August

I hope you've been saving your lunch money kids because August is turning out to be the month for cool ass DVDs. When you're picking up the Goodfellas (SE), Kill Bill Vol. 2 and The Lost Boys (SE), throw this puppy in the cart with it and watch the movie that made Kevin Smith get off his ass and make a film. For better or worse.

Includes:

  • Audio commentaries featuring Richard Linklater and members of the cast and crew
  • It's Impossible to Learn to Plow by Reading Books (1988) - Linklater's first full-length feature, with commentary by Linklater, available for the first time
  • Rare casting tapes featuring select "auditions" from the over one hundred member cast
  • Deleted scenes and on-set footage
  • Footage from the Slacker 10th Anniversary Reunion in Austin, Texas in 2001
  • History of the Austin Film Society - Founded by Linklater with Lee Daniel, including early flyers from screenings
  • Booklet featuring reviews, essays, production notes, an introduction to Plow by director Monte Hellman (Two Lane Blacktop, The Shooting), an essay by John Pierson (Spike Mike Reloaded: A Guided Tour Across a decade of American Independent Cinema)
  • Stills gallery featuring hundreds of rare behind-the-scenes production and publicity photos, and early script versions
  • Original theatrical trailer
  • New high-definition digital transfer, with restored image and sound supervised by director Richard Linklater and directory of photography Lee Daniel, made from the original 16mm film element
  • English subtitles for the deaf and hearing impaired
  • '

The cast of Anchorman has nothing to do with Slacker, but is happy to be here anyway. Especially Paul Rudd.

Sliders (S1&S2) - August 3

There won't be any need to buy any of the other seasons of this sci-fi series starring Vern from Stand By Me and Gimli from LOTR, because the rest of them sucked. Well, until Keri Wuhrer showed up. From Universal Studios Home Video

Includes:

  • Pilot Episode Commentary with Writers/Co-Creators Tracy Torme and Robert K. Weiss
  • The Making of Sliders
  • Photo Gallery
  • 1.33:1 Full Frame
  • English DD2.0 Mono

13 Going On 30 - August 3

When in doubt, take the story of someone old (or young) who wakes up as someone young (or old), and struggles to come to grips with their new reality. Have them fall down and flip out about being young (old), repeatedly. Oh and have Jennifer Garner grab her ta-tas a lot. It'll work, trust me.

Includes:

  • Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo Commentary
  • Filmmakers’ Commentary
  • 18 Deleted and Extended Scenes
  • Blooper Reel
  • I Was a Teenage Geek - Featurette
  • The Making-of 13 Going On 30
  • Music Videos
  • The 80’s Outfit Challenge - Set-Top Feature
  • Then and Now - Set-Top Feature
  • Anamorphic Widescreen
  • English DD5.1 Surround

Next time you see Jennifer Garner, think Geena Davis. From Columbia Tristar Home Entertainment

Gollum co-stars as a gay magazine editor; says, "my precious" in a whole new way.
