Will A&E's Occult be the next X-Files or Fringe? Michael Bay and James Wong hope so

Sep. 17, 2012by: Alex Maidy

With FRINGE set to leave the airwaves in a few months, fans may find their next supernatural prodecural coming from A&E.

The network, which is also set to air the PSYCHO prequel series BATES' MOTEL, will be bringing OCCULT to series from producers Michael Bay and James Wong. The show follows a very familiar storyline. According to Deadline, the plot centers on an FBI agent who returns from administrative leave after going off the deep end while investigating his wife’s disappearance. Eager to be back on the job, he is paired with an agent with her own complicated backstory who specializes in the occult. Together, they will solve cases for the newly formed occult crimes task force.

Sounds like it could be decent, but it will all depend on seeing the pilot. Both THE X-FILES and FRINGE had phenomenal pilots that setup long runs for both shows. Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes also has the upcoming pirate series on Starz, BLACK SAILS. Wong was a former writer and producer on THE X-FILES, THE LONE GUNMEN, MILLENNIUM, THE EVENT, and AMERICAN HORROR STORY.

As a fan of both FRINGE and THE X-FILES, I find it difficult to have faith in a Michael Bay production, but the inclusion of James Wong does give me a little hope. What do you think? Does OCCULT have the potential to be a hit?

interesting

This has potential. I dont agree that there are too may paranormal series out there. Every network has one or two and thats not a bad thing. I think Bay needs to fuck off or else we'll end up with a bunch of poorly designed monsters diving in slo mo. As for Black Sails, Im intrigued but that kind of period piece will likely implode due to budget constraints (see Deadwood and Rome) unless its massively successful.

The LONG Gunmen?

Erm, the title is The LONE Gunmen, what you wrote, sounds like the title of a porno... Anyway, aren't there enough series out there that focus on the paranormal and people fighting it? Supernatural is doing a pretty fine job and it's got many people that used to work on The X-Files on board. Judging by the title, I think that Occult is going to be Supernatural with FBI agents... What made The X-Files really cool, were the aliens and the whole conspiracy to cover up their existense and what not.

With all the vampires, werewolves and witches running around on TV and the silver screen, there is no better time for a show focusing on aliens and conspiracies and shit. Hey, here's an idea: how about making a series based on the Cthulhu mythos?

Good question

Where the hell is Chris Carter???? Dude hasn't done anything since the last X-files movie, he needs to get back into this stuff! I'm looking forward to this series, I hope it's got a good X-files vibe to it!
