Woo wears Rainbow

06.03.2004

PAYCHECK wasn't exactly the success that Paramount would've hoped for but that isn't slowing them down from reteaming with director John Woo. Paramount has brought in the Woo man to direct an adaptation of Tom Clancy's RAINBOW SIX. The novel has been in development at the studio since 1999 with about six different writers at one point working on a draft. RAINBOW is perhaps best known these days as a highly popular video game series with the latest installment, "Rainbow Six 3: Black Arrow" shipping for the XBox console this August. The book from which the film is based follows character John Clark, who you may remember being portrayed by Willem Dafoe in CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER or Liev Schreiber in SUM OF ALL FEARS. It's likely neither of these two actors would be involved in this version. The film will follow Clark who heads up Rainbow Six, an international special-ops anti-terrorist strike force, and must now stop a bioterrorist from releasing a weaponized strain of the Ebola virus. In addition to RAINBOW SIX, Paramount is also developing the next film in Clancy's Jack Ryan series RED RABBIT. Woo is also attached to direct SPY HUNTER with The Rock for Universal.
