Would you want to see Liam Neeson return for Taken 3?

Taken 2 big banner

I was thinking about going with the obvious pun and titling this article something akin to "how do you feel about being Taken a third time," but that seemed a little on the nose and judgmental considering the reviews.  Of course now I'm telling you about it, so you know what I think anyway and it's too late now.

I should also add that this is probably going to piss you off.  It technically makes good business sense, sure - but it's still in all likelihood going to piss you off.  TAKEN 2, a movie more disliked than most of the rest of its movie brethren, is very possibly receiving the sequel treatment. Though as with TAKEN 2, co-screenwriter Robert Mark Kamen sees it more as "not really a sequel, it's a continuation story." There's also the "continuation story" seen in the comparative mega-profits Bryan Mills has already wrested in just a weekend - $49.5 million - one that immediately made everyone involved perk up and take notice that Mills' special set of skills was still as hot as they'd hoped.  "We didn't start talking about [TAKEN 3] until we saw the numbers," said Kamen.  "But then we said, 'oh, okay. I think we should do a third one.'  And Fox wants us to do a third one."

As for just what ground a third movie might cover? "We've taken everyone we can take — it's going to go in another direction. Should be interesting."  Though the question then becomes: why would it still be called TAKEN... ? But whatever the plot conceit, whatever the way a sequel goes, I think we can all agree: Neeson Season is at hand, and you don't deny Liam Neeson his f***ing season.

Extra Tidbit: Kamen was originally brought in to revise THE FIFTH ELEMENT, and he and Besson got on so well that they've worked together ever since. They call each other Shrek and Donkey. Besson, by the way, is Shrek - "Luc is a big guy who owns the swamp. He has a huge vision."

Here's the thing...

I loved the first Taken, and have yet to see the second, though I do plan on it. If they can come up with a good idea & bring on board some really talented people, then make it happen. I am also a huge fan of Neeson's so I'm pretty much down with anything he does. OR, they could come up with a new idea and feature Neeson kicking ass in some other way. OR Liam Neeson in a comedy. OR spend their money developing a brand new movie & idea and creating something fresh...

Maybe

The biggest problems with sequels of this type of movie are that they feel that they have to do the exact same thing every time. Instead of having his daughter in danger again, why couldn't they have developed the film around Neesonís character and his buddies from the first film?

"not really a sequel, it's a continuation story."

What the fuck does that even mean? I'm getting the feeling Neeson will soon be the darling of DTV movies if this going through.

Ah yes, TAKEN3D they took his daughter, then his family and now they've got his mother-in-law. Brian must overcome his fears and is tempted to leave her with her captors as he detests her fucking guts.
This will be followed up by T4KEN: Executive Abduction where the president has been taken hostage.... By space

"I don't know who you are or where you're from
If you wanted us to take you our leader,
all you had to do was ask
now I'm asking you to return our leader
even though I didn't vote for the prick and it ends there
If you don't, I will track your signal,
I will find you and I'll fuck up your side of the galaxy big-time
because I WONT come in peace--

Only if Megaton stays the hell away from it, and bring in another Besson protege like Louis Leterrier (at least he knows how to shoot action). And have Brian Mills actually team up and rock shit with his ex-CIA pals for once.

If I'm not wrong, Luc Besson has said that there won't be a third film...but that was before the massive box office takings (hee). I agree with Netforce and BillClay that Megaton needs to go, and Neeson needs to be back should there be a third one. And Neeson probably shouldn't spend most of the movie in captivity while Maggie Grace chucks grenades all over town.

I really disliked Part 2, a lot, but considering it currently stands at $120 million worldwide a part 3 was inevitable. Neeson has gone on record saying he has no interest doing it and it should continue with his daughter. Of course he could be persuaded to return.
Firs thing they need to do is get rid of Olivier Megaton.

Judging from mostly negative reviews for Taken 2, Taken 3 is a good opportunity to fix things right. I hope that Neeson returns to the role. No Neeson, No Taken.
