I Want That!: Federico Mancosu's Django Unchained poster

Oct. 25, 2012by: Niki Stephens

When I saw this poster on the DJANGO UNCHAINED Facebook page today, I knew I had to share.

Federico Mancosu took his fandom to a new level today. The poster for DJANGO UNCHAINED is done in a 60s style, and looks pretty awesome. He used a painting style (possibly through Photoshop I presume) instead of just putting some of the stills on a background. He gave some details on the print:

"I made this poster last June, but I make it public only today, first I wanted to send a copy to Quentin Tarantino, and this has happened only few days ago. The artwork was created with the intention to developing a poster with the style of the typical Italian sixties posters, and exactly those printed with the size of 33×71 cm (13×28 in), in Italy we call this kind of poster “locandina”; their promotional use was to be displayed in the halls of Italian cinemas. The structure, the lettering and the type of colors, recall the original poster of Sergio Corbucci‘s “Django”, released in 1966. To make the artwork as close as possible at the time, I put the “Columbia Pictures” old logo and all the various warnings and notes from the company that supposedly printed and distributed the poster. Of course, for coherence, the subject of the poster was represented with a painting style (see below the details picture)."

Unfortunately this one is not available in his store.

I can make those for you in Photoshop in about 3 minutes. They're not even filters you have to pay for.

3 minutes is just processing time.

Those posters suck ass.

Well, I don't LOVE it...

The composition is all wrong. The Regulators should be in the background, and he could've found a better place(or pose) for Christoph Waltz. Look at the Django poster. Simplicity. Django Unchained is just overcrowded.

I like that it's actual artwork, but from afar, it looks like a PS job. Honestly, don't really like it. Maybe I'm just not into those kinds of old style western posters like the old Django poster, but something about it bothers me.
