Simon West to direct Jason Statham's Heat remake

Nov. 2, 2012by: Alex Maidy

It is about time someone decided to remake HEAT. What a piece of garbage that movie was. I mean, I get that it is a crime drama starring some famous actors, but come on. If anyone really wants to give me a convincing argument that HEAT should not be remade, now is the time to tell me.

Wait, there was a HEAT with Al Pacino and Robert De Niro? Never heard of it. I am referring to the seminal 1986 film HEAT starring Burt Reynolds and Peter MacNicol. When I think of HEAT, that is the first movie that comes to mind.

HEAT was going to be helmed by the legendary Brian De Palma but Statham's EXPENDABLES 2 director Simon West has taken the reins instead. Cory Yuen will choreograph the fight scenes and the screenplay will be written by William Goldman (THE PRINCESS BRIDE, MARATHON MAN), who wrote the original film.

Plot: Statham will be playing the role originated by Reynolds, a compulsive gambler who works odd jobs in security to make ends meet. Eventually things come to a head when his friend is brutally beaten, and Statham's character must take on the Las Vegas mob responsible.

So, basically, like THE MECHANIC and CRANK and PARKER and SAFE and WAR, this is a slight variation on the "Jason Statham is a grumbly British [insert respectable military or police role] who has to fight the [insert vicious criminal organization] who killed his [insert family or friend] which shows him the path to redemption".

I like Statham, but the guy needs to mix it up a little bit.

I'm cool with it. But from the outset: you can't gamble in any casino if you work security.

I worked in security when I was in university and if we tried to go into any casino we were told we'd get in a world of trouble. I think it's because you get to know the dealers. So ya. At least this story didn't scare me as much as the headline.

Jason statham in Cory yuen action choreography? iam sold.

its not much of a big problem for me to see Jason statham playing himself in many films.thats what Hollywood makes you do if you are good at something.i would like to see him in Transporter kind of quality films, rather than in substandard action flicks.may be Hollywood has ran out of Arnold, sly kind of action hero scripts.its all CGI that sells these days.statham might be Tom cruise of B-action flicks.but i want to see him for one or two more decades

While Statham isn't exactly the most diverse, I think he's deviated from his usual a number of times to add variety to his repertoire. Bank Job and his stuff with Guy Richie are somewhat different from his typical action gig, though he still tends to play the British tough guy. I really don't want to see Statham trying out other genres like Gerard Butler. Even his romance stuff, like in Expendables, felt a bit uncomfortable. The guys a good actor, but I go to his movies exactly because I know

I don't think, Revolver aside, you can count Guy Ritchie movies as Statham mixing it up. When he made Lock Stock and Snatch nobody knew who he was. He didn't hit action mode in earnest until Transporter. While he's not the most versatile bloke, he's given us enough that I think he could make some interesting non-action, or less-action oriented movies that could still be a lot of fun.

sounds damn good!

mix it up? Come on, I mean sure some variety would be good but I ain't complainin anyway. The guy is an action hero and is making action movies. Did Arnie or Sly need to change it up in their heyday? No. They played the same role over and over for the most part. Sure Arnie played in some sci-fi movies, most of which worked, but they just aren't offering those types of roles to guys like Statham anymore, as awesome as it'd be. And nevermind that back in the day action movies were at their peak

And nevermind that back in the day action movies were at their peak (unfortunately) so there were all sorts of them with big concepts, unique characters, etc. now it's all superheroes instead of action heroes and the 'action hero action movies' that Sly, Arnie, etc. starred in are now smaller concept and smaller budget movies like the ones Statham has been starring in. But considering their budgets they are still surprisingly entertaining. It is what it is, I'd like to see him get the chance at some different movies but he just doesn't get the opportunities, it's not like he doesn't want to. For the time being though I continue to get excited for these movies, because simply put I love action movies, and most of his movies are damn fun. The plot here sounds fun and I mean come on Cory Yuen ? Hell to the YES! That is fantastic news, and Simon West blew me away with the Expendables 2 so that's even better news, plus the original scriptwriter doing this is very interesting as well (has that ever been done before?) I'll be there!

then, why are you behaving like psycho hater of QT? What if RD inspired by city of fire? If its stolen material, why didn't they take any legal action? If u call it stealing, then Spielberg stole ET from Satyajit ray's story,James cameron stole Terminator,Avator from sci-fi novels,Chris Nolan stole Inception from Duck tales and eXistenZ,Wachowskis stole Matrix from some comic books.everybody gets inspiration from somewhere
