Star Wars Rumor Alert: Harrison Ford is open to reprising his role as Han Solo

Nov. 5, 2012by: Niki Stephens

This may be a pretty big rumor, but it's one worth mentioning, me thinks.

So here's the deal: Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Harrison Ford is open to returning to the role of Han Solo. However, the news comes from a "highly placed source." Basically it's just there to tease us and when we confess our love for the idea, it will only reply, "I know."

After getting through the article they wrote on said rumor, it says that Ford will only consider doing it when a.) there's a script b.) there's a director and c.) he gets paid a decent amount. While Ford does have a certain amount of happiness over being involved, he never understood the character of Han Solo and wasn't too shy about his feelings on the subject. In my opinion, if we've learned anything from Harrison Ford, he could give it a big f*ck you and be perfectly content with that. Ford does things on his terms, as he's become a little more outspoken (to say the least) in his old age.

There are no other details in the article, other than a rehash of what little you've already learned about the upcoming EPISODE VII.

Han Solo was one of my first big crushes, so to see him return even at 70 years of age would still rock my Millennium Falcon. But until we get an official word from him or his people, all we can do is say 'yay' or 'nay' on the possibility.

I think Ford is angling for the Han Solo death scene he always wanted. He probably regrets checking out intellectually on ROTJ and sort of phoning it in after disagreeing with Lucas on the script, so he may see Episode 7 as a way to work with a new director and have much more leverage on how Han is portrayed. That, and yeah, he could use the boost of another big hit.

never seen that pic before! COOL! Yea I'll believe it when I see it, cause he never seemed to be interested before. It would be sweet to get the whole team back though!

How bad-ass is that pic?

Although I dunno if I'd want the original cast as in I don't know if I even want Luke, Han and Leia in this trilogy. You can create an exciting new trilogy moving forward with the elements of the original, taking taking place way after. I guess it's either all in or not at all, don't resort to just, "Hey KIds, Han Solo was in episode 7 for five minutes!!! Wasn't that cool?!" Whatever happens and if Ford agrees, then I hope he doesn't just go through the motions like Crystal Skull (which I liked

I thought Ford was by far the best thing about Crystal Skull. The script was really patchy and awful, the Mutt character pointless and Marian's appearance just awkward, but when Indy was just being Indy, Ford brought it.

Give him what he wants

Han Solo and Indy influenced my childhood. So, what I'm about to say comes out of love. Give him what he wants: the money, a small amount of screen time and...... sigh...... then kill off Han Solo. It hurts me to say that but you know that Harrison Ford would not do all three films. Let Han go out the hero he is and let Harrison be happy. Just to see Harrison as Han just for a few minutes would be something to live for, even it's just for a few minutes of screen time.

Han Solo was for me the most influential character from my childhood. He was the person I most wanted to be for the first 12 years of my life. I loved every aspect of the character, and in turn I loved and followed most everything Harrison Ford has done in his career. That said.....I feel like he is too old to do it now. Han Solo to me....is a character who lived fast and died young.

That's awesome. And I'm sure Carrie Fisher has aged just as gracefully and is still just as photogenic.

That's what was missing

For me the biggest issue I had for the prequels ( still liked them for the most part) was the Han Solo character was missing. Not so much Han Solo himself but the anti hero that most people looked up to. The guy that needed to do the bad shit (like shoot FIRST) and still get the praise for doing the right thing. The guy was cool and everybody wanted to be him. So if he is down for another Star Wars then count me in.

Excellent

I love this news. But I have to ask, what is there not to understand about Han Solo? The dude shoots first, he's a scoundrel and he gets the girl. Sounds like a bad ass to me. And that's all I need to know.

That's a new one...and a great piece of news if it's true! I think we can all agree that it was a good thing George Lucas decided to eventually leave out the "10 year old Han Solo raised by Wookiees subplot" from Episode III (concept art shows he was entertaining that horrible idea). It is true that like Solo, Ford "does things on his own terms", but if he really does come back for Episode VII then it really will be a big boost for the project. Still wonder what story they're going to spin this

Who's scruffy looking?

I don't think anyone could hate this idea. But it all depends on how they decide to handle the character.

On a side note, when the story first came out, there was mention of bringing back Han, Leia and Luke. But I didn't see anyone mention Lando. It would be awesome for Harrison and Billy Dee Williams to share the screen again (along with Chewie).
