Check out these epic, kick ass banners for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey!

Nov. 8, 2012by: Paul Shirey

Someone opened the floodgates of press material for THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY as there seems to be a new TV spot, poster, cross-promotion, etc. hitting the net daily.  Honestly, it's gotten a bit much for me to even keep up with, because there's only so many pictures of hobbits clustered together that can keep me interested.  However, today we have something much better than what we've seen so far with these four banners for the film that highlight different sequences and characters from the film.

The four-banner set includes the majority of the main characters and each is intricately designed, giving a distinctiveness to each one.  To me, this is an example of what right looks like when creating a multi-faceted look at a film, giving weight and scope to the bigger picture.  In short, these look epic.

Check 'em out:

Here's the synopsis:

“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” follows title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers. Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain, first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever… Gollum. Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s “precious” ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities… A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

I'm there

I'm hoping for a press or preview screening. Either way, I have to fork over some $$$ for a babysitter at some point because the wife really wants to see this one!

Horrible.

Seriously? Did you look at these in thumbnail format or what?! They're Photoshop garbage! Look at those airbrushed wolves and Bilbo's face on the one where's he's hanging from a tree. I mean come on... even the fire and the trees are BLURRY because they're taken off low res Google results. I can take better pictures with my 4 year old cellphone! Man, I'm sending these to photoshopfail.com! Gosh just look at that table with all the food plates and beer so poorly incorporated, even the wood

What's so hard with taking a real picture of the actors in costume. Man, I really miss Drew Struzan now.

The second one looks like the cover of my mother's recipe book.
