Trailer and poster for the YA adaptation of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, starring Lily Collins

Nov. 15, 2012by: Paul Shirey

The competition for the next big Young Adult novel adaptation is going to war in 2013 as the TWILIGHT saga comes to a close this week, leaving a big, gaping hole for some teenage fantasy films to be filled.  One of those contenders is the adaptation of THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES, starring Lily Collins, Lena Headey, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, and Jared Harris.  It doesn't look like the worst thing in the world and at least has a little "fight" in it.

Take a look:

It's kind of like HARRY POTTER meets ANGELS AND DEMONS meets THE HUNGER GAMES.  I guess there could be worse comparisons and this does have a decent cast lined up, so there's a little promise for those not automatically inclined to this type of fare.

Here's a brief synopsis:

When her mom is attacked and taken from their home in New York City by a demon, a seemingly ordinary teenage girl, Clary Fray, finds out truths about her past and bloodline on her quest to get her back, that changes her entire life.

THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES, directed by Harald Zwart (THE KARATE KID remake, AGENT CODY BANKS, THE PINK PANTHER 2...oy vey) and based on the YA novel by Cassandra Clare is set to open on August 23, 2013.

All the dime-a-dozen pretty boy/girl actors seem right at place here but the production value looks surprisingly (too) good.

It'll still suck though, that's damn near a given.

Good music on a shitty trailer. This looks silly as hell, I'm sure kids will enjoy it like they do with Transformers.

Tidbit: ARTEMIS FOWL series by Eoin Colfer. Hands Down.

I'm *really* surprised that hadn't adapted yet......It's actually the TOTAL OPPOSITE of everything thats been adapted or being adapted since HP series started, I mean the main character is a 12 year old genious criminal mastermind supervillain! You'd think its like Megamind but its soo does not. The series actually has a world of its own, not at all like these copy-paste "inspired" bullshit. If there's any YA series that can fill the void of HP with halfway decent plots, its Artemis

This film is looking a bit "meh" too me.....I'll wait for the reviews.

This looks pretty bad. The acting in the trailer was awful, Twilight status. I like Lily Collins, but she keeps picking these awful, tweeny properties. Wouldn't be surprised if this is, in fact, pretty terrible.
