Star Trek Into Darkness will premiere a theatrical trailer in front of non-IMAX screenings of The Hobbit on December 14th

If you are planning to catch THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY in IMAX, you recently learned that you will be lucky enough to see the premiere of the first 9 minutes of STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS. Now that is a nice Christmas treat! But, if you are not planning on seeing the IMAX version of the film, you still get some STAR TREK goodness.

Fans who see THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY on standard screens will get to see the full length trailer for STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS. The catch, though, is that the trailer will not be playing on IMAX screens. So, you would have to see both formats to get the 9 minute clip and the theatrical trailer. TrekMovie has confirmed as well that the full trailer will contain footage from the entire movie and not just the prologue.

If it helps you make your final decision, the trailer will premiere online the following week while the prologue will not be posted online. I am sure there will still be bootlegs of the prologue as there were for THE DARK KNIGHT, but I would put my money on seeing THE HOBBIT in IMAX.

Hopefully seeing this full trailer will finally put the villain rumors to rest for STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS. I am still crossing my fingers for Khan!

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS transports into theaters on May 17, 2013.

Extra Tidbit: Between THE HOBBIT and STAR TREK, December 14th is gonna have a lot of Cumberbitches happy.

Watched the LOTR Trilogy at home, I'll probably watch the Hobbit Trilogy at home, too.

Only because the movies are SO long, and not because they are awful. I loved all 3 LOTR films and I'm certain I'm going to love the Hobbit Trilogy just as much.

Anyway, I went back and re-watched "Starter for 10" and recognized Benedict Cumberbatch. Didn't know who he was when I watched it the first time. Then I realized that both Benedict Cumberbatch and Alice Eve were in that movie, and are set to star in STID, but after a quick Google search, noticed that they've worked together more

"He went to the event with long-time friend Alice Eve, who he has worked with in Starter for 10, Hawking, and Star Trek 2. Here's an article with more details on the premiere, along with footage of Benedict and Alice walking together during the afterparty."

If there was any movie to see this year in IMAX, it's The Hobbit. Having 9 minutes of the new Star Trek attached is just more the reason to see it in IMAX.

Aside from the "fake" IMAX screens, there shouldn't be any reason not to watch any movie not on IMAX (aside from cost and availability and proximity of IMAX location).

It didn't come back onto my mental radar until a couple months ago but ever since it did I can say I defiinitely second that. I'm so fucking intrigued.
