This trailer for I Give It A Year looks like the best romantic comedy in a long time
To put it bluntly, romantic comedy is the shittiest genre. Per capita, there are more bad romcoms than there are good ones. We have gone entire years without having a decent romantic comedy movie, which is a shame. Katherine Heigl, Jennifer Lopez, Sandra Bullock, and Kate Hudson collectively have reduced the genre to a joke.
But there is hope. The release of BRIDESMAIDS gave hope that there could be humor mined from female-centric movies while retaining respect for themselves. While we cannot expect Kristin Wiig to make all of them herself, maybe one of her BRIDESMAIDS costars can.
Rose Byrne stars in I GIVE IT A YEAR alongside a great cast featuring Rafe Spall, Anna Faris, Simon Baker, Stephen Merchant, and Minnie Driver. The movie is written and directed by Dan Mazer, who was a screenwriter on BORAT and BRUNO. The humor definitely has a raunchy element to it, but it also looks like a feel good movie. I found myself chuckling throughout.
Plot: Since they met at a party, ambitious high-flyer Nat (Rose Byrne) and struggling novelist Josh (Rafe Spall) have been deliriously happy despite their differences. Josh is a thinker, Nat’s a doer, he’s lasses faire and she’s quite anal… but the spark between them is undeniable. Their wedding is a dream come true, but family, friends and even the minister who marries them aren’t convinced that they can last. Josh’s ex-girlfriend, Chloe (Anna Faris), and Nat’s handsome American client Guy (Simon Baker), could offer attractive alternatives…With their first anniversary approaching, neither wants to be the first to give up, but will they make it?
I GIVE IT A YEAR is scheduled to be released in the UK on February 8, 2013 with no North American dates scheduled. I hope we get to see this one as it looks pretty funny. What do you think?
