New featurette for Tom Cruise's Jack Reacher provides insight from author Lee Child

Ol' JACK REACHER is comin' to town next month, based on the novel One Shot by author Lee Child, who gives some insight into the character in this new featurette for the upcoming film.  Childs has written 17 JACK REACHER novels, focusing on the elusive former military policeman who seems to get entangled in conspiracies and violent throwdowns regularly.

Directed by Christopher McQuarrie (WAY OF THE GUN) the film looks to be a solid action romp for the holiday season and certainly one I'm looking forward to.  It's my dream that McQuarrie will be able to recapture some of the magic from his epic and underrated shootout from the end of WAY OF THE GUN.  One can hope.

Here's Lee Childs on JACK REACHER:

The song that's playing in the trailers is "State Trooper" by Drop the Lime and is the perfect song to play when whipping through traffic.  Not that we advocate that, but hey, if you're looking for a cool guy song to give you a boost, there you have it.

JACK REACHER, starring Tom Cruise, Rosamund Pike, Richard Jenkins, Robert Duvall, Werner Herzog, and Courtney Jai starts going Jason Bourne on December 21, 2012.

Cruise is NOT Reacher

This could have been Dolph Lundgren's big comeback. He was born to play Reacher. The descriptions in the novels fit Lundgren to a T. I just can't take Cruise seriously in this. If it was any other generic character I would be all over this, but Cruise just doesn't fit. Period.

I had the chance to read 61 Hours and it was pretty good. It's the only Reacher book I've read. But in that bok, I didn't get a Bond/Bourne vibe from him. It just read that he was a regular Joe who gets stuck in these situations and uses his head and brain first and violence last. But tat could just be 61 Hours. I don't know the rest of the books.

this looks good

I just wish they got a bigger dude to play Jack Reacher. I mean the guy is supposed to be like 6'5 and blonde. Why Tom Cruise?

I totally agree. I read the 61 Hours book and Tom Cruise is not the person I pictured when I was reading that book.

From what I understand, this was a a pet project of sorts for Tom Cruise, much like how Sahara was for McCaughnahey, so Cruise being Cruise, of course he was going to be the titular character. I'm curious now to start picking up the books, but I don't want to read the wrong book and come across any spoilers for the movie.
