Robbins flies to Zathura

06.23.2004

Oscar-winner Tim Robbins has signed on to star in ZATHURA, the adaptation of the Chris Van Allsburg children's book and sequel to JUMANJI. Jon Favreau signed on to direct the stuck-in-development-hell film last year after the success of his last film, ELF. Columbia acquired the rights to the book four years ago and had been trying to get a film off the ground ever since then. Filming is expected to begin on the project this August. Like JUMANJI, the film follows two kids drawn into a game, but here two boys are sucked into an intergalactic adventure. Robbins will star as the boys' father. The script for ZATHURA was written by David Koepp (no stranger to big-budget action films with SPIDER-MAN and JURASSIC PARK under his belt), John Kamps and Eric Fogle. Another film based on a book by Van Allsburg, THE POLAR EXPRESS, will hit theaters this November with Tom Hanks starring...in a creepy sort of way. Favreau the actor is still working and can be seen this September alongside Kirsten Dunst and Paul Bettany in WIMBLEDON.
