Samuel L Jackson wants to be in Star Wars: Episode VII and offers some ideas how to bring him back

Dec. 10, 2012by: Alex Maidy

While STAR WARS: EPISODE VII talk has certainly yielded a huge amount of ideas from fans, I honestly never considered having Mace Windu make a return appearance. Samuel L. Jackson's character was one of the most under-utilized of the prequel characters despite having tons of presence and potential. With his swan dive at the end of REVENGE OF THE SITH, I assumed we had seen the end of him. But, Jackson holds out hope that we may get more Windu.

In a recent interview with Coming Soon, Jackson outlined his excitement at the new films coming from the LucasFilm/Disney merger: "I'm not surprised but totally geeked by the idea of there being more Star Wars. It's like, okay, Obi-Wan was dead when episode four started, so maybe everyone thinks I'm dead and we'll find out what happened to Mace Windu. I can come back as one-armed or a one-handed Jedi that's still around that didn't actually die."

Jackson also offered some ideas on how to bring Windu back: "I could do that or be a ghost hologram. I don't care, I just want to stay associated with the franchise. I just always loved it. I always loved the idea of it, that there's this whole civilization out there somewhere else that's just as much fun and different and diverse and wild as we are."

So, seeing as STAR WARS: EPISODE VII, VIII, and IX are taking place after the death of all the prequel characters, I am not sure how Windu would fit into the new trilogy, but I would not be opposed if they could find a natural way to get him into the story. There will still be a need for some sort of Jedi guidance for Luke and beyond. Maybe the Skywalkers rebuild the Jedi Temple and the archives of the Order and Windu can make an appearance? Who knows! This is STAR WARS, so the possibilities are endless!

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII is slated to open in 2015.

sure it would be cool to see him come back. I'd like to see them give him a bigger part this time around though. I would LOVE to see Darth Vader come back! I guess that's not possible, unless we see him as a flaskback or something. I think a movie between episode three and four would have been AWESOME, and would have featured Darth heavily.

Darth Maul somehow lived, after falling into an abyss- only after being cut in half. At this point, why the fuck not.

Holograms!

Ooo! They could finally introduce those awesome Holocrons that are floating around the Expanded Universe! I always thought that was a cool idea - like an interactive, holographic encyclopedia!

What?

How was Obi Wan dead at the start of a new hope? He was in hiding, not dead. That's different from seeing you die on screen and then coming back in physical form. Plus, since when is his character critical enough to be a spirit. We was against Skywalker from the start. I love Sam Jackson, but enough. Let's all move on. No Mace, no Qui Gon. Move forward not back.

I think he meant everyone in the Star Wars universe thought Obi-wan was dead because he was in hiding. He implies that Mace Windu could do the same.

I'd like for him to come back. My second favorite characters in the prequels behind Obi Wan.

I always find it kinda lame when they bring back dead characters, like they did w/ Boba Fett and Darth Maul in the books and cartoons. I understand Jackson's love for the series, and I wouldn't mind seeing him as a hologram or something, but that's it.

My kids still call him Mace "Window".

Ah, the irony.

Still, I would love to see him come back. I would definitely pay to see Jackson as a Jedi again.

I have one, solitary demand for Star Wars VII

Let it be good. A fresh, original story with some genuinely exciting characters and some well-delivered dialog. I don't care if it has zero characters or locales that I recognize. If its good and clearly a Star Wars movie...I'm happy.

Geez Sam, playing a Force Ghost would be the same dull approach for the character that George Lucas did. Besides everybody who knew Mace Windu is dead. He might as well play a whole different character.

"With his swan dive at the end of REVENGE OF THE SITH"

all I gotta say is that you left WAY before the credits if you think that was the end.
