Cool Videos: Celebrate the 100th episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars with this highlight reel

Jan. 4, 2013by: Paul Shirey

Cartoon Network's STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS has been a mixed bag for me.  It began with the animated feature, transitioning into the weekly show, now in its fifth season, and has now reached its 100th episode.  To celebrate the occasion, Lucasfilm animation has put together this retrospective video, collecting scenes from all five seasons.  It's a cool look back, especially using the old John Williams music to push it along.

It's been a surprisingly successful show with some great highs, but not without some serious lulls in progress, especially with the galactic politics episodes.  The show has focused mostly on Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Anakin's apprentice, Ahsoka with a host of familiar and new faces, worlds, and conflicts, but all within the realm of the Clone Wars.  Personally, I'm ready to see an animated Star Wars series set in a different time frame, but that doesn't mean there isn't fun to be had here.

Enjoy:

Currently, STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS is playing on Cartoon Network, but with Disney's recent acquisition of Lucasfilm, it's likely that the show will move to Disney XD.

Extra Tidbit: I'm still most fond of Genndy Tartakovsky's Clone Wars, the best form of Star Wars animation to date for me.

I felt like I was watching a bunch of video game cutscenes. And I don't mean that lightly! They were literally *like* video game cutscenes: we had over-the-shoulder shots with both characters AND ships, cliche dialogue implying progression, "there's hope for you yet, rookie", dialogue that apes the movies "we're keepers of the peace, not warriors", finishing moves, boss battles, a black friggin lightsaber...yeah. Doesn't really sell me on the show.
Totally sells me on the non-existent

Extra Tidbit... eh... no. But...

The show is fantastic! I agree there have been some pretty low lows... (poison snapple anyone?) But the majority of the show is fantastic and has added so much depth to the saga as a whole. And for better or for worse George Lucas has been involved in this show a LOT. Not being a Lucas hater, I dig it.

The art direction is gorgeous.

Every time I tune in to this series, the first thing that catches my eye is the incredible art direction. The colors, the textures, the designs, all simply breath taking. I love the darker elements to the series, such as the few episodes with Asajj Ventress, I had no idea who this character was, but I do now.

Tidbit...

Absolutely, the CGI animation isn't nearly as good. This scene alone blew my mind: [link]

I just realized this with Obi-Wan's quote.

He sad that Anakin was the best star pilot in the galaxy....He was, George?...Well Anakin, Annie, did show how awesome he was in Episode 1 by accidentally doing barrel rolls, it was a neat trick, and by accidentally blowing up the enemies main spaceship. That was real pod racing.
