Carr builds Dream House

06.30.2004

Revolution Studios has brought on Steve Carr (DADDY DAY CARE) to direct an adaptation of the 1948 Cary Grant film MR. BLANDINGS BUILDS HIS DREAM HOUSE. The film finds the titular Mr. Blandings moving from Manhattan to the suburbs with his wife, only to find building their country house is harder than they expected. While it does sound similar to the Tom Hanks classic MONEY PIT, director Carr doesn't like that comparison. He says, "The idea of a family moving from an apartment to the house from hell was unofficially remade already in THE MONEY PIT a film that was not my favorite. Our pitch is closer to PARENTHOOD..." How could MONEY PIT not be your favorite? Tom Hanks snapping and cackling like a madman? C'mon...comedy gold! But I guess I should trust the guy behind DADDY DAY CARE, DR. DOLITTLE 2 and NEXT FRIDAY. The project will be fasttracked once Revolutions finalizes the acquisition of rights for the films from RKO Pictures. Carr is currently filming RAGE CONTROL with Martin Lawrence.
