Think about it this way. Despite competition of varying degrees, every single one of the past 13 Pixar movies has debuted at #1 and I don't see Monsters University reversing the trend.

Monsters University will topple it. That movie is already tracking above 80 million opening weekend. World War Z will do small business around 25 to 30 million as that is where it is tracking now. Man of Steel will have a drop of about 60 percent and make just over 50 million. Impressive either way for Man of Steel. Should be able to hit 300 million by the end of its domestic run.

I say Lone Ranger, rest of June looks weak & I haven't heard any buzz on Monsters University, but I think White House Down will sneak up & be a hit but not top.

Considering it's PIxar, it's hard to imagine it NOT doing extremely well. In a summer that has, so far, been quite lackluster, I imagine that this will do very well. And not just with kids, but adults as well, since everyone loves Pixar films no matter the age bracket. World War Z COULD do very well, but most people I know aren't terribly interested and I don't estimate it being a big hit. All of that said, I don't mind if Man of Steel continues to do well. It was a good movie and deserves the

Monsters U

Kids out of school + Pixar + Sequel to one of Pixar's better movies + first real kids movie of the summer (Epic doesn't count) = Big money that'll make Supes kneel before them.

I'm seeing a sneak preview of Monsters U tomorrow night. I'll definitely know by then.

How is this hating....do you not understand or underestimate the power of Pixar? People waiting 11 years ( 11 years!!!) for the third toy story movie and look how much that made. Monsters U will obviously wont make that much but it'll be above 70 million....more than enough to beat Man of Steel.

Not next Weekend

Its really hard to tell, especially without knowing the quality of Monsters University or World War Z before hand. If either one is particularly good, word of mouth could bump either of those films to the number one spot on their second weekend. I think Superman will get 2 weeks at #1 and then either WWZ or MU will take number #1 on their second weekend.

I have little faith in "The Heat" (it looks really dumb) and "White House Down". Yes, the last white house movie did fairly well, but i'm

Despicable Me 2 or The Lone Ranger

Think about it for a minute... Monsters University & World War Z will most likely make more money than Man Of Steel next weekend, BUT they most likely won't knock it out of the top of the box office, due to Man Of Steel still holding relatively strong. I honestly don't see Man Of Steel being topped by any of the above movies until Despicable Me 2 & The Lone Ranger come galloping into town.

Monsters University

will beat the living hell out of Meh of Steel, we'll see how well this lousy flick does when it faces some actual competition.

I'd say Despicable Me 2. I think more people will want to see Man of Steel again before seeing World War Z on opening weekend.

But I could see Monsters University maybe knocking it off. Maybe.

I know you draw the thumbs down, like moths to a bug zapper, but really... That was a legit opinion, yet you still get thumbed down.

Yeah. It's like an ongoing trend, the thumbs down.

Ehh, whatever... People around these parts tend to feel that if it's not in sync with their own opinion, then it's blasphemy. Keep on doing things your way, because you know what, you don't have anything that you need to prove to the self-righteous.

I went with Lone Ranger, my initial impulse was Despicable Me 2.. but past history shows that a kids movie doesn't always draw top dog, even in the summer. Man of Steel is kid friendly and they will still want to see it over and over.

I saw a preview screening of Despicable Me 2, and I'm afraid to report I was really disappointed by it. It suffered from what a lot of kid's movie sequels suffer - the studio bigwigs find the element most popular with the kids and then ramp it up, at the sake of a meaningful story or character moments. Yeah, there are still some glimmers of the warmth and heart that made Despicable Me fantastic, but the story just came off as really unfocused.

Come on...

It's Pixar and it's a followup to one of their best films....it has to do Bug's Life numbers to fall to Supes. Hell maybe World war z has a shot too ( not at #1......but #2) but I doubt it.
