Meet Dr. Doom...

08.03.2004

At the San Diego Comic-Con, it was revealed at the FANTASTIC FOUR panel that the role of Dr. Doom was close to being cast with a "famous actor with a very recognizable accent." Director Tim Story assured fans they wouldn’t be disappointed with the casting. Today we have word that Julian McMahon, star of FX's "Nip/Tuck", will play Victor Von Doom in the Marvel comic adaptation.

A "famous" actor with a "recognizable" accent? Maybe it's just because I've never seen "Nip/Tuck" (and I can't believe I'm the only one who hasn't) but I didn't even recognize the name and had no idea he had an accent. And we won't be disappointed?... I guess I'm not upset about the casting cause I have no idea what to expect. I really don't know Julian McMahon from a hole in the wall. But I suppose I'm a bit disappointed that it isn't an actor I could've easily picture behind the mask like Ray Liotta or Tim Robbins. I'm not sure why Story would put himself out on a limb with those comments. Perhaps, in the end, we'll find a new star a la Hugh Jackman with this casting (anybody have a clue who he was when he was cast?). Filming is set to begin later this month in Vancouver for a July 2005 release.
