5-minute clip of Guardians of the Galaxy plus James Gunn talks IMAX and Hulk

07.21.2014

For those of you looking forward to GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, we have all sorts of goodies for you today! First up is an extended 5-minute look at the film that evidently aired on the USA network and has made it's way online. For those of you who had a chance to check out 17 minutes of the film in IMAX, you'll recognize all of the footage as it deals with the introduction to the characters as well as their prison. The prison break is all but absent, but it's still the best look you'll get at the characters before the film is released.

Take a look at the extended preview here:

Next up is a short video with some words by the director himself, Mr. James Gunn. He goes on to say that they went over every frame of the film and optimized it for IMAX theaters. It is important to note that no scenes were shot with the legit IMAX cameras (at least that I saw), so you won't get the DARK KNIGHT/MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL experience, but it's certainly no slouch in the visual department. Just make sure to get there early for some good seats!

Here's what James Gunn has to say about IMAX:

Finally, there have been rumors swirling around about Planet Hulk for some time now, despite Kevin Feige and Mark Ruffalo debunking them, and now those rumors involve Hulk teaming up with the Guardians in the sequel. Does it sound like the work of fanboys gone made? Definitely, and Gunn had a few things to say questioning the validity of those rumors.

Gunn in regards to the Hulk catching up with the Guardians in a sequel:

I can answer that question very easily: it is absolute, 100% bullshit. It feels like a great relief to finally say this after all the dumb stuff on the Internet. There's not going to be a Planet Hulk movie, there was never going to be a Planet Hulk movie, there was never a plan for the Hulk to team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy – I wouldn't want the Hulk to team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy! And it's all a bunch of complete bullshit.

There ya have it! That should put those Planet Hulk rumors to bed (until next month, anyway). I would love to see the Guardians team up with the Avengers in their third movie, but I'm getting ahead of myself. August 1st is right around the corner and I'm about as excited as can be to see Marvel's latest entry.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY finally arrives on August 1, 2014.

Seen It today... How disapointing...

Yes, how disappointing that I can't tell you anything before July 24th (you got scarred there, right ? Yep, I'm a freaking sadistic, guys !)...
Still, the colour of my post is a clue.
The copy we saw didn't have the credits scenes, so I don't know what's in them.
But I can tell you that Nathan Fillion's cameo is vocal as he plays a CGI character, Cosmo's cameo is there, but he's never mentioned as such, and I didn't see the Howard The Duck reference so it might be in one of the credits

Nathan Fillion's character is NOT CGI actually... I haven't even seen the movie, but I saw the 17-minute screening and he's in it -- without spoiling the part, he plays the big hulking blue guy which leads to the situation that leads to Quill saying, "I'm with them," in the prison.

Yep, you're right, but it seemed more (good) CGI than practical effects to me... Could be wrong though. My bad if I am.

So Hulk won't team up with the Guardians...

Can I still hope that the Guardians will team up with Hulk instead?

Looking gooooood

This looks so good, they look like they have the tone just right for a feel good movie like this. It'll be nice to see a Marvel movie that isn't so well known and mainstream - I'm really digging Rocket as the 'strategist' from what I've read on his background. A little disappointed not to see more Drax but reckon Pratt is gonna be huge next 18 months with this and JP to come - I really like his leading man approach and seems to have much more charisma than the also rans of the last few years

Sean, u seen the movie? They already shown it to critics? Or just that 17 min footage?

Des1, I agree. They did this with DOFP and lots of others. Idk why.

I can't do it.....

I can't watch one second more of the film until it's on an IMAX. I'm really hoping it'll be as good as it sounds. There hasn't been a lot to cheer about this summer.....

Keep Hulk on Earth but I want Tony Stark to meet Rocket Raccoon!!!

Hulk needs his own movie on Earth. Maybe have smaller team up movies with him and Iron Man.

I want some interaction between Rocket Raccoon and Iron Man. I would just love to see Tony's reaction to a talking raccoon and a semi-talking tree.

Since RDJ supposively wants out, or his contract is almost up, that might be the best way to introduce Iron Man's replacement, or I guess if they were to even recast Stark. Whoever the character in the iron man costume, he's going to have a hard time to live up to RDJ's performance. Including him with all the kind of "wacky" characters of GOTG would take a chunk of the pressure, and screen time, off of him. He also fits really well in the comics bantering with Quill and Rocket.

I know they

I know they are going to start showing more and more new characters, and the roster of the avengers is going to change, but I hope Iron Man and Hulk are around in the movies in some capacity.

Their betting the farm that this saves a lackluster summer. I'm guessing this is a 60 million opening. It will be a fun movie at any rate.

Has Disney had a lackluster summer? Or was the summer really lackluster at all? I guess I don't know if you mean money or quality. But I think Cap 2 and Malificent did well - are even still doing well and still have home video releases (is there a new term for that?). I'm not sure what all they released this summer, but I don't think anything bombed terribly in consideration to the budget - like million dollar arm. Quality wise, I think this summer was solid. I'm not sure what all they released this summer, but I don't think anything bombed terribly in consideration to the budget - like million dollar arm. Quality wise, I think this summer was solid. I also think that this summer's blockbusters have probably had one of the highest critical ratings overall ever. T4 of course got terrible reviews, but Cap 2, Edge of Tomorrow, DOFP (a time traveling super hero movie that is the 7th movie in the franchise scored in the nineties on rotten tomatoes), and then even Godzilla got solid reviews. And neighbors, 22 jump street - apes recently - and animated films. Some have def gotten bad reviews, some have def bombed, I think this summer was def top heavy, and once July came there weren't as many movies that I absolutely couldn't wait to see, the events weren't as big, but it hasn't seemed to hurt box office and reviews on average. So how has it been lackluster? I don't know how the over all money compares to other summers, but you can only really compare summers so far.

I will say that a couple months ago I had a conversation with a friend ab GOTG and it's possible box office - only one trailer had came out. He was saying it was gonna be huge. Though I am a big fan of the comics, the recent ones and the older series, and I've been really looking forward to this film since I heard Chris Pratt and Gunn were involved, I didn't think the overall public would embrace it that well. I don't know if non film geeks, ones who aren't interested in directors and don't get on these sites and know there's a fantastic four or Antman movie coming out, even if they've seen most of the avengers films, realize this is apart of the same universe. That's going to hurt it a pinch. But I have changed my mind. I never thought it would bomb, I just thought it'd prolly be the smallest marvel film. Maybe the film doesn't have much comedy, I do wish they would've included more of that humor and banter in trailers, but I def think this movie is gonna make a nice profit. I don't know the budget, but I'd say 60-80 opening weekend. Prolly a bit higher bc I think most will want to 3D it, if not IMAX

But again, how's the summer been lackluster?

Money wise I meant. As far as Disney goes. Well they didn't have an epic bomb this year. So there's that.

"What's a Raccoon?"
"What's a Raccoon....it's what you are stupid!"

This film looks so much fun. Had a huge grin the entire time I was watching this video. Looks terrific in every way and probably the most fun comic book film that will come out this summer and year.

Can't wait.
