Probably Sinister, that film was creepy as hell. I really liked Devil too, very underrated. Of course my favorite supernatural anything of the last 10 years is of course, Supernatural!

Sad day in movies when Cabbin in the Woods is rated the best horror film of the lest decade, but the movie was borderline comedy, fantasy, and thriller for genres before i would say it was a horror. And I voted it for it to. So I guess that means there hasent been many good horror movies over the last decade. The movie I felt most scared in while watching was Children if Men, if the the trailer for Gravity counts for other I'd vote for that.

Sinister

Of all the movies referred to above, The Conjuring and Sinister were the best. Both were expertly done and very atmospheric. IMHO there needs to be a constant sense of doom and darkness for a horror movie to be riveting IMHO and both movies pulled this off through great direction, lighting and music. The acting in both was also quite good, I particularly enjoyed Vera Farmiga in The Conjuring. With that said I like the concept of Sinister better as it was not your standard ghost story or story

With that said I like the concept of Sinister better as it was not your standard ghost story or story of demonic possession; the film created its on mythos and backstory which I found to be fascinating, I felt it had shadows of Lovecraft even. The ending in The Conjuring was pretty forgettable and anit-climatic considering all that came before it but the ending to Sinister hit you hard and was unforgettable.

This is tough.

The Conjuring, Sinister, Insidious, and Paranormal Activity are easily the scariest movies I've ever seen. Don't think I can pick a favorite between them.

I really like Grave Encounters, found it funny.
Horror-wise, I would have to go with Evil Dead, Midnight Meat Train and House on Haunted Hill.
Halloween movie I watch every year - Trick R Treat.

Best Horror film of last 10 years is......

The Descent
I know it's not a "paranormal" horror film, but it was the last film I saw in the theaters which scaried the hell out of me. 2005! 8 years ago was when it was released and nothing has out done this horror film.

Agreed, it is probably my favourite. Especially the proper version without the happy ending. When you first see the creatures it is so creepy.

This list reminds me how few decent horror films have been released in the last 10 years

Cabin In The Woods is definitely a comedy spoof of horror films, and while it was a funny film, I don't consider it a scary horror film, it's more The Truman Show meets Friday The 13th. Plus, the ending is awful. The last revealing thing in Cabin In The Woods almost wrecked the whole film for me.

Cabin in the Woods gets the top vote?

Are you guys still watching Sesame Street reruns in your spare time? I mean, what the fuck is that about? You have a few really well-written, original stories with great acting such as Sinister, Drag Me to Hell, 1408, White Noise, etc....and the majority of you pick Cabin in the Woods? Hmmmm. Seems this site has been invaded by school children.

You're saying 'Cabin in the Woods' *is* original? 'Doctor Who' did the same plot in the 1980s.

My pick on this list is The Orphanage or Drag Me to Hell. I really like Cabin in the Woods, but I consider it comedy a lot more than horror.

Sinister

was one the scariest flicks ive seen in a while, also great concept and execution, it really pays getting someone like Hawke to be your lead. Cabin in the Woods was awesome too but can't beat Sinister in terms of scares.

Cabin in the woods is so overrated

In five years nobobdy will remember it.

My favourite movie is Guillermo Del Toros "The devils Backbone". A classic ghost story, beautifully shot.

The Devil's Backbone is a very valid answer here because a movie that came out 12 years ago totally falls in the category of "the last ten years"...

Hmmm... I had a tricky time calling this one.

I was originally leaning toward The Orphanage, but the more I thought about it, the less I'd call it a horror movie and more of a ghost story... Kinda scary, but more dramatic and beautiful than anything else. I had to go with The Conjuring, while I had trouble picking between that and Insidious, Drag Me To Hell, and Cabin In The Woods... And for those picking High Tension, The Strangers, and Wolf Creek--Kudos on your good taste in horror flicks, but none of those really have any elements of

Wolf Creek

I still cannot watch that movie again. the last 20 minutes still gets me. I took it to the heart and it fucked with my head. The movie made me question human beings

The Conjuring. Cabin In the Woods would be number 1 if not for it's subversive and meta nature. Pure horror wins out. with The Conjuring. An incredible well put together old school horror film.

I chose The Conjuring. Great storytelling and beautifully directed and acted with some great jump scenes.

How in the world is there no French horror movies on this list?
The French (love or hate them) you cannot deny that they have downright owned American horror cinema over the past decade.
To make my point - 1. The Inside 2. Martyr's 3. Haute Tension (NC-17 French version), The Ordeal, Frontier(s), Anti Christ, Eden Log, and Anti-Bodies.
If you are fan of horror and are unaware of these movies I listed. Watch them, trust me you will not be disappointed.

For a list of great French horror films, you sure do have a lot of Belgian, Danish and German movies included.

I voted the Orphanage as its one of the most original horrors in the last 10 years easily & so beautifully made, but I knew Cabin in the Woods would have the most votes which i'm fine with as its another original & completely awesome movie ..... although I thought the orphanage would have had more votes :/

A tie between 'Drag Me to Hell' & 'Cabin in the Woods'. Though I ultimately gave it to 'Cabin in the Woods'.

Also 'Evil Dead', 'Insidious', & 'The Conjuring' were all surprisingly good (I was expecting pure crap from them).

Good picks. The Ring would've been my pick too, until I realized it's been out for over a decade. Make's you feel old, don't it?

Drag me to Hell

Drag me to Hell was great. Most of those movies listed are so horrible and pale in comparison.

Considered it but wasn't sure it really counted as "supernatural" because it had humans and technology behind it, but I suppose it peripherally qualifies. Was mainly thinking along the lines of haunting/possession type movies similar to the INSIDIOUSes

Makes sense. I considered it for the fact the underlying reason for the entire story is "supernatural" (in other words, the old gods). Thanks for adding it!
