Not only is Toy Story 3 a great sequel (probably the best in the series), but it's probably one of the best animated features ever created. It has a fantastic and emotionally powerful story. There are a lot of powerful animated films, but that one has a lasting, emotional impact.

The Rescuers Down Under

So much better than the original, and has a wonderful score by Bruce Broughton!

SHREK 2

I adore Toy Story 3 (but never cared for the first two) but I had such a great time watching Shrek 2. Such a funny movie.

I love how the list is all mainstream movies. You guys do realize that animated movies come from all over the world, right? With that, I'm gonna go with Ghost In The Shell: Innocence, just to go against the grain.

Is Disney's Robin Hood a sequel to The Jungle Book? 'Cause in that case, way to throw the audience a curve ball.

Shrek 2...

...because I have never laughed harder in an animated movie....and at the time it was a box office phenomenon. One of those instances where the sequel far exceeds the original in every way. It had action, humor, romance...it's tough to make a sequel where all the elements come together so well at just the right time. I'm not gonna dog Toy Story cuz obviously TS3 was a great movie (TS2? not quite) but I guess maybe the toy theme never won over my heart the way the big green ogre did. In any

In any event, Shrek 2 deserves some love too. And as far as Aladdin goes, Return of Jafar was worlds better than King of Thieves.

Toy Story 3

and the only one that could possibly contend with it is Toy Story 2.

Obviously Toy Stories Win Out but...

I must have watched Fievel Goes West 200 times as a kid. I don't think I've actually seen the first flick. Guessing it wouldn't hold up if I tried watching it today (sans offspring of my own to watch it with) but it gives me a warm fuzzy that all y'all had wellworn VHS copies also.

In my opinion. An American Tail, like The Land Before Time, still holds up today, thanks in part to the great animation and James Horner's brillaint score. But this is just me.

Trav, I agree. James Horner's score the the Fivel films and TLBT are amazing.

My favorite animated film that is both a prequel and sequel is Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. It's not strictly a sequel to anything, other than the fact it takes place some time after the show started; but the flashbacks are definitely a prequel to the show.
From the list, though, I have to go with Toy Story 3.

It goes without saying that Toy Story 3 was excellent. Fantasia 2000 is very near and dear to me. I think I prefer it over the original Fantasia. The Rhapsody in Blue segment, depicting life in pre Depression-era New York in the style of Al Hirschfeld, is a bona fide piece of art. Funny, moving, expertly choreographed in its animation, a well-told story and something that absolutely makes you want to stand up and cheer at the end. [link] I like the Pines of Rome sequence with the lost baby

I'm going with the Rescuers Down Under. I think it's just as good as the first film. Newhart and Gabor were both fantastic in those two criminally underrated Disney films.

Always wished there were more of those made . . .

Toy Story 3

Although Toy Story 2 could have easily been named the best. However, An American Tail: Fievel Goes West was my childhood.

You spoke my mind! I'm quite pleased to see Fievel Goes West in the third place after Toy Story 2 & 3!

I was going to say TOY STORY 2, but

then you listed TS3. I saw it at a press screening, and a roomful of hardened film critics were bawling their eyes out at the end. That's the sign of a great movie.
