1. The Thing (better than the original)
2. The Ring (better than the original)
3. Invasion of the Body Snatchers
4. Night of the Living Dead (it has a much better cast than the original (Tony Todd FTW) and better effects. I still love the original though)

I'd like to see the same poll done in reverse. "Which horror remake wasn't as good as the original?" It might encourage people to seek out some of the great older horror movies that they might not have seen. One example is The Hitcher. As much as I really like Sean Bean, he didn't even come close to scaring me the way Rutger Hauer did in the original.

There's no way I can choose between "The Fly" and "The Thing". My top 2 favorite horror movies of all time.

THING RING DO YOUR THING

i give my first second and third vote to the Thing. Aside from setting, Carpenter brought pure originality to the remake and surpassed it on every level. But i have to give strong props to the Ring

Though I do enjoy a large majority of these movies as well as the original versions. I would have to say that my favorite remake was A Nightmare on Elm Street. Jackie Earl Haley brought a serious malevolence back to the character. Robert Englund is classic but Haley was awesome too.

John Carpenter is the man

And The Thing is my favorite. But I was surprised not to see any love for Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy?

I really really really wish Zack Snyder would make a sequel to Dawn of The Dead!

Man sooo hard to choose. I voted for The Thing, but there's so many good one's. Dawn of The Dead was great, and so was Night of The Living Dead. I really enjoyed The Fly, and even The Blob was good. I enjoyed The Crazies, and Friday the 13th also. Let Me In, House On Haunted Hill, Thirteen Ghosts, Quarantine, and The Wolfman were also good.

The Thing, easily. I have The Fly & Bodysnatchers '78 tied at second.

It's actually a tie for me - The Thing and The Blob. Tom Savini's Night of The Living Dead is also underrated.

The Thing and The Fly are easy to choose. They were remakes of very cheesy movies. My vote goes to the 2009 remake My Bloody Valentine. Patrick Lussier didn't do a take for take remake and actually changed some things to make it better. Truly a great film.

Dawn of the Dead is a darkhorse

The Thing is a horror classic and The Fly is an excellent remake but Dawn of the Dead is a movie that really stands on its own two feet away from the original. I think it's one of the better remakes out there because it took enough risks to separate itself from the source material but kept enough intact so that you knew what you were watching. Anyone who complains about the zombies going from slow to fast need to just get over that change since it adds to the threat in the movie and helps the

I really dig it.

Just watched THE FLY and THE THING last night...

I think #1 for me is THE THING, but runners up are THE FLY and THE BLOB. Then, perhaps, the Dawn of the Dead remake; the only thing I've liked by Zach Snyder.

Definitely The Fly for me. I adore that movie (though The Thing is a pretty close second).

Just looking at that list you can tell they really used to know how to handle a remake. And then the 2000's happened.

THE THING

None of them touch THE THING.
After THE THING, I would say:

-The Fly
-Invasion of the body snatchers, Dawn of the Dead, Let me in etc...

Hard to choose. I liked zombie's version of Halloween. The ring was good back when I was a kid. Hills have eyes is by far the most disturbing one though. Wolf man was crap. Friday the 13rh was kind of meh. A

The Thing. The monster designs alone never fail to give me nightmares. It also inspired one of my favorite horror video games of all time - Dead Space.

Honorable mention: Evil Dead

Quarantine

Although I chose Dawn Of The Dead myself, I am surprised Quarantine didn't get more votes...I found it to be a pretty enjoyable movie, and think it is very underrated. I just re-watched it the other night because my girlfriend had never seen it, still enjoyable and she enjoyed it too.

Where's fright night? It deserves to be in this list as it was a pretty good reimagining of the first classic.

I have a soft spot for it. While I think they short changed Evil Ed I thought an actual story with the mother was nice touch as was it staying true to vampire lore (don't invite, can't walk in daylight...) and the cast was pretty top notch. It's unappreciated in my book.

The Crazies

Fucking love that film. It's a good remake and a great film all by itself.
