50th Watchmen poster

02.18.2009

Is this yet another poster for the Zack Snyder directed, Alan Moore adapted WATCHMEN? You bet your ass it is. It's an international poster and it shows the principal cast members all brooding and blue hued. It also shows that Malin Akerman's Silk Spectre costume is good in all kinds of ways and poses. Her and Carla Gugino in costume combine to make a powerful force of hotness that only adds to the general awesomeness of this movie. The flick opens March 6th.

Has anyone else noticed that all the marketing has the "young" versions of each character... while the story's focus is on their older years.

@Canto: the graphic novel is translated "Les Gardiens" in french and so is the film.

Aside from that, I wish they took more chances with their posters. Character shots of characters no one knows played by actors no one knows isn't that marketable anyway.

I think Housecoat man has some good points about the flick's financial prospects. 300 was a lesser known graphic novel that the general public was largely unaware of, plus the film had nowhere near the amount of publicity and hype leading up to it that Watchmen has. I have no clue how much money this movie will make but I'm 100% certain it's going to break the opening weekend record for March, and I'd be pretty surprised if it didn't gross at least $200 Mill.

This movie will not only be good and successful it will kick people's ass! I have faith in Snyder, he seems to be tenacious about keeping whatever he's adapting faithful to the source material unlike some (Damn you Frank Miller!)
That said, if the film is even half as good as it's source material we are in for a ride and I think it will be a refreshing (a la Dark Knight) surprise to people unfamiliar with the book to see a superhero film with adult themes. Even people I know who don't know

Even people I know who don't know jack about the Watchmen can't wait for this film.
Not to mention, 300 was definitely an unfamiliar graphic novel to the public, with no major stars and released around the same time. And that bad boy crossed 200 million! Hell, if Paul Blart (which I am currently in therapy for watching) can cross 100 million then a bad ass, comic book based superhero film will definitely stand a chance.

I really don't know if this movie is gonna be good, or successful.

It might break records or it might mark the end for the Graphic novel Adaptation fad.

Pros:
- Based on a great Graphic Novel
- Good Casting
- Good visuals

Cons:
- Unpopular Graphic Novel among non- comic book readers
- Snyder hasn't shown he has the skills to make a movie deep or meaningful. We only know he's good with action.
- Not all Graphic Novels work translated to Film
