MOVIE POLL: Should Tom Hiddleston's Loki get his own stand-alone Marvel film?

Nov. 8, 2013by: Paul Shirey

Should Tom Hiddleston's Loki get his own stand-alone Marvel film?

Absolutely. Hiddleston's Loki has proven to be more than worthy for his own film.
Maybe. Depends on what type of story/setting they put him in.
No. He's charming, but still a one-note villain. Fun in doses, but not as the lead.
Please, for the love of Odin, no more Loki!

HELL YEAH!

A solo movie would be great - there is so much more to explore about this character! It is a rare thing for such a multi-layered character to come along, and there are so many directions a solo movie could go.

Yes, I do! I want to know Loki more through his own movie.

We want to know Loki's story since we already know about Thor's. Loki, the fallen prince, the broken soul, the villain with the largest following in recent years and growing every minute.

No.

Sure, Loki is charming and clever, but left to his own devices, he will inevitably try to take over the world(s). Now if you want to do a 'Warriors Three' flick and throw in Sif, Baldur, AND Loki, I'm okay with that. LIke a 'Journey Into Mystery' or 'Tales of Asgard' flick.

No. I like Loki as a villain, but the Marvel universe is bigger than him. He's good as a foil to Thor and he was good as a villain for The Avengers, but it's time to move beyond Loki. There are bigger villains in the Marvel universe and the films should really start exploring them. With Guardians and a future hinting at Thanos, we're going to be seeing bigger, more encompassing villains start to pop up. Focus should be on the further expansion of what Marvel has going and not on returning to the same well every time.

Yes, my suggestion would be a Thanos/Loki team-up film based on the Thanos Quest story. Loki could certainly play the Mephisto part from the Infinity Gauntlet story.

I think maybe... he is awesome and its great every time he's on screen but the same is said for Jack Sparrow & they over used him so I'd be worried the same would happen with Loki, they make more of an impact in smaller doses I think

It's actually a very rare privilege for an actor playing a villain to get to visit the role three times. I don't think he needs a standalone film, all we need to know about Loki we already do. Loki is a terrific villain, but he does need other characters to bounce off of.

I'm in the "maybe camp", a solo film for Loki could work, but only if Thor/Odin are in it. Loki needs other A-list Marvel characters to play off of.

Let's not make a Hulk-like mistake...

Loki is awesome. Hiddleston's portrayal is on point, there's no two ways about it. BUT. Some characters don't command the screen as a titular character very well, despite how awesome they are. Hulk is one of them- Ruffalo's incarnation worked so well because the Hulk was structured as a supporting character for once.

I'll point out that the Hulk worked best when he was in the hands of Joss Whedon, the best writer/director to adapt him to the screen. Ang Lee is great, but clearly had no connection to the material. The rest of the list (Zak Penn, Louis Leterrier, Michael France) is a pretty mediocre group. It's not surprising that the Hulk works best when he's written best.

Could say the same thing about Loki. Get him a good director/writer, it could work.

Probably not, but could definitely support lead, more so than in Thor 2. Add villians such as Enchantress or Surtur perhaps, Loki can still play both sides, obviously we'd still need Thor, unless Loki has an interest in another throne other than that of Asgard or Earth, both of which Thor protects, can't have one without the other.

To be honest as much as I liked the Avengers, I didn't like Loki as the villain, and Thor is the weakest character of them all. And i love comic books and the movies they bring, but for some reason I'm loosing interest in the Marvel Universe. I still like Spider-man and X-men, but Marvel Studios is loosing me. I feel like "phase two" is being rushed and forced.

Yes, but move on in terms of villains

I'm sick of Loki as THE villain. All he has his megalomania. That's it. I want a villain with a slightly new angle. I love Hiddelston as Loki, but he's becoming more of a reluctant villain/not-so-secret anti-hero in the Marvel universe, in my opinion. Honestly, his only real evilness is pride. I want someone truly freaking villainous.

With the right story and talent behind it, then yes. But I think he works much better in really big small doses. He absolutely stole Thor: The Dark World.

Love Loki, But No Solo Movie.

Tom Hiddleston is one of the best things about the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the way he embraces and enjoys playing Loki is just awesome. BUT, he's awesome as a villain, in regulated doses, while interacting with other leading characters. Making him the solo-lead, antihero or otherwise, will fail, simply because it's not what the character was meant to be. It's like making a solo Joker movie. No matter how great the villain, they should remain just that; villains, not pseudo-protagonists.

Absolutely not... I actually didn't expect him in Thor 2 as a main character, so I already feel over saturated with him. He's been great thus far, but put the character to rest after this sequel.

No! It's time for Tom to do another character before Loki becomes anymore worn out than Jack Sparrow

Possible film titles:
"Poor Me"
"The Adopted Child Strikes Back"
"Dr. Sidekick Villain: Or How I Learned To Stop Being Pissy And Actually Grow A Pair Of Testicles And Be An Awesome Evil Villain"

Loki is a cunning and charming villain but I don't think he can carry a movie alone.

F' Loki!

Loki is the weakest villain I've ever seen!!! Marvel Studios just made him the punching bag of all jokes and he's more like a court jester! WTF...Loki is a God and yet everyone gets a crack at him, even the "human" superheroes out smarts him! Marvel fuck'd Loki's character in the universe they created. If there was a Pussy Villain Award, Loki wins by default.

It's possible, with the right script

I'm thinking of the story arc BLOOD BROTHERS, which opens with Loki in charge of Asgard and Thor in chains. It has a very MACBETH quality to it, which I really enjoyed. That would be a great exploration of Loki, but probably too dark and cerebral for the summer blockbuster crowd.
