MOVIE POLL: Do you plan on watching the 2014 Oscars?

Jan. 16, 2014by: Paul Shirey

Do you plan on watching the 2014 Oscars?

Yes, it's an annual tradition. Friends, nachos, and beer are in order.
Maybe, if I happen to remember it's on. No worries if I miss it, though.
No, it's a bunch of bullshit.
I'll probably just check results online.
Forget the Oscars, I'm ready for The Golden Schmoes!

The Butler snub...

...as if I needed an actual reason to skip the Oscars, that subject line says it all.

ABSOLUTELY.
1. Reason to drink.
2."ooh, I don't like the nominees!" = more reason to drink.
3. I like the nominees, compared to most years: Leo, McConaughey, Dern, Roger Deakins, Spike Jonze, Joe Walker, Christopher Rouse, Steve Prouty... right on.

Only thing missing is James Franco for Alien.

Yes, I've watched it every year for the past few years, and I like Ellen. I hope she comes up with good material because I don't think she's quite as smart as Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are.

Nope. Not this time. I'm absolutely *disgusted* with these nominations, and especially so with American Hustle being the top contender. Pardon my Anglo, but fuck that shit.

Both the Oscars and the Golden Schmoes are important annual traditions in this house. And, beer and bacchanalia accompany both.

I WILL ALWAYS WATCH IT NO MATTER THE NOMINEES.

Even if I don't like any of the nominees (which is unlikely), then I can complain and boo at the winners on stage. Besides, the show is always fun to watch. Very long? Yes. But they always try their best to be funny and include well-produced clip montages and musical numbers.

Too political

No one wins because they deserve to win, they win because it's "their time" or because they're the hot commodity right now or whatever. The year Halle Berry won for Monster's Ball and Denzel won for Training Day was the last year I watched. And after last year's leaked transcribe from an Academy member detailing his voting process, it all but confirmed my worst thoughts about the Oscars. So yeah, not thanks.

Ha ha

Thanks for the 'no, it's a bunch of bullshit' option. Finally, a choice I actually believe in!

After seeing Short Term 12, I said I would never watch the Oscars again if Brie Larson was not nominated for Best Actress. Well...Guess I won't be watching them again.

No it is one of the most wasteful, useless, and overly extravagant event that I have ever seen. So much hypocrisy. It is a just a bunch of self-congratulation, back patting bullshit. It's just a bunch of bullshit and there is way too much politics involving the awards as well.

Every movie that I have watched just because it won an Oscar SUCKED! I am glad they have the Oscars so I know to stay away from those films. Seeing that one of the worst films I have ever watched, "Gravity" is on the Oscar list, I see that my opinion is still holding true.

Gravity = One of the best movies of all time, IMO. To each their own!

Yep, watch every year. Plus there is no way I am going to miss Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto's speeches.

Eh.....

I'm really behind on amputee porn as it is so probably not. If I can finish in a timely manner maybe..... But realisticly with the house to myself and an industrial size bottle of lube I will not be seen till morning. Plus my erotic asphyxiation Batman costume came from Amazon.

I have no idea what's going on in this post, but I'm really glad it exists.

Will definitely be watching them. I would hate to miss DiCaprio possibly winning his first Oscar and the speech he gives along with it.

The Oscar competition is going to be great. I'm thinking American Hustle, Twelve Years a Slave, and Dallas Buyer's Club take home most of the main, essential awards.

I remember last year I considered skipping. Not because I was upset so much with the nominees. This year I'll probably watch them, even though I really fell behind on my viewing (there's still time, I know, but I don't think I've been this lax since the '90s). I just hope the show itself is better than last year. At least if they stick with a themed show it won't be musical.

I watch the Oscars every year with my mom, and no matter how bullshit the nominations get (and they were kinda decent this year, so that's good), I don't foresee that changing any time soon! I feel like the Oscars are important for a film fan to see.

There really should be an option of No Matter How Much The Academy Irritates Me With Their Nominations I Will Watch It.
Joaquin Phoenix not being nominated is completely inexcusable. Although it is inevitable there is a handful snubs and what the fuck nominations. No matter what though, I will always watch them

There always are snubs and "WTF" nominations and wins. Actually, this year was pretty good: yes, some great performances were snubbed but someone had to get the chop. Tom Hanks was a surprise in that score, but the guy already has a couple on his shelf so I think he'll live.
