Voted for Bowie

But would like to hand out honorable mentions to Joan Jett(basically just for Light of Day, but she was fantastic in that film), Tupac Shakur(not the best movies, but his performances were never the problem) and Roger Daltrey (admittedly simply cause the Who is my favourite band ever and he has a lot of presence.)

Tom Waits

I completely forgot about Tom Waits acting in movies until I saw his name on the list. He was a perfect devil in the Imaginarium of Doctor Parnasus and also great in both Mystery Men and Bram Stoker's Dracula. Greatly underrated.

You can add Short Cuts and Down by Law to that list. Waits is a terrific actor!

Where's Marshall?

Ummmmm.......Marshall Mathers, also known as a little rapper called Eminem?
I know he's only been in a couple films, but "8 Mile" was one of the best acting performances by a rapper in cinema history!

I went Cher. The most nominations and the only one to win an Oscar. Her performances in Silkwood, Mask, Witches of Eastwick and of course Moonstruck beat everyone here. Next I'd say Wahlberg & Will Smith for a tie for 2nd.

Marky Mark for me... I wouldn't say he's a diverse actor, but he always has a way to make roles work.

Unfair contest

Its a generational thing. As I would assume that the main demographic using this website is probably 16 - 40
Which is probably evident in the top results.

Elvis was an engaging presence, but not really a great actor. He also made some heinous stinkers back in the day. As for Sinatra, the only film I can think of that he did in my lifetime was CANNONBALL RUN 2, in which he literally phoned in his part.

Eminem

one movie is hardly an acting career but his song did win an academy and I enjoyed his little cameo in entourage.

I like Sting myself. I know I hes only been in a few movies, but I always felt he had the chops for it. The Bride was awesome.

He's very hit or miss as an actor if you ask me. But he was pretty great in the Bride.

Jared Leto is the most impressive so far, though if you wanna be really technical about it, he started acting and singing at roughly around the same time.

David Bowie for me

I think he's been in the most consistently interesting projects (THE HUNGER, THE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH. LABYRINTH). I know a lot of people mock LABYRINTH for its 80's aesthetic but it's an underrated film in many ways: Siskel and Ebert once said it was one movie they felt should have done better at the box office than it did. And Jennifer Connelly didn't hurt either. ;)

Surprised by the results I'm seeing

I was led to believe that this question was asking us who our favorite ACTOR was, not who's been in the most movies we've enjoyed. I'm over here evaluating their actual acting abilities, but the top two contenders actually probably have the least acting chops of anyone else on this list.

In terms of 'most talented at both professions' I had to go with Sinatra, followed by Mos Def.

WILL SMITH.

A lot of them have done good work, but Smith has been more consistent. While he has a couple of bad movies in his resum, it's nothing compared to Ice Cube, Queen Latifah, Jennifer Lopez, Mandy Moorye and Mark Wahlberg.

Smith is probably one of the worst actors on this list. He may have starred in more consistently entertaining films, but he's definitely one of the worst actors.

Really? I'd take AFTER EARTH, SHARK TALE or WILD WILD WEST over THE LOVELY BONES, MAX PAYNE, WE OWN THE NIGHT or ROCK STAR any day.

I would take Wahlberg over Smith in a fist fight any day of the week - just a side note.

Was Jamie Foxx left off by technicality?

Because he sort of was a musician before he was a stand up or an actor, then the musical side took a backseat by a wide margin except for the occasional hook verse on popular songs...

Yeah, actually being known for their music career before acting was sort of a qualification. I'm sure plenty of actors played instruments before they were successful as actors.
