It's so hard to choose because he has done so many great films. I even enjoyed Waterworld, and The Postman though it seems so many people didn't. Fandango was underrated as far as I'm concerned, as well as Mr. Brooks. My all time favorites are a toss up between Dances With Wolves, and Field Of Dreams. I'm a sucker for a great baseball movie. I really love all his movies.

KC is the man

I honestly cant think of a role I didnt enjoy him in.. I may have not liked the movie for various other reaseons but I have never thought that he was the problem with a movie.. but if I had to pic one I really love: For the Love of the Game.

He's the best when he cuts loose and has fun with a role.

Silverado, Bull Durham and Tin Cup are my favorites.

Robin Hood Prince of Thieves at 2 , Really? That's a little worrying.

Even his role in No Way Out should have been nearer the top his acting was much better in that than it was in the Untouchables.

Well....

His best role was easily The Untouchables. However, seeing as he's played THE EXACT SAME CHARACTER in every movie he's ever appeared in, I couldn't actually single out a performance that was different from the others.

Seriously, the guy makes Steven Segall look like he has range....

The Untouchables for me. He was freakin' cool in that movie especially the last scene where he pushed the villain off the building - very satisfying.

Vote goes to Open Range.
Looking at this list, we can see how many great (not just good) movies he has done since the 80's. He may not be the the most incredible actor of our generation, but he's still underrated in my book.

Mr. Brooks

While he has had several great roles and has done great in them, he was surprisingly dark and fantastic in "Mr. Brooks".

3000 Miles to Graceland gave his character one of the best death scenes in cinematic history.

One of the great modern westerns, and Kevin Costner maximizes his ability to play understated, yet still convey a depth to the character. And the chemistry between all of the players is just off the charts great, especially between him an Duvall. The scene with the two of them right before the gunfight is one of my all-time faves!

Definitely The Untouchables for me. It seems like he was born to play that role and I enjoyed his chemistry with Sean Connery and Andy Garcia.

He was very cool in The Bodyguard.

How are 22 people not a Costner fan? If you look at that list and can't find at least 3 movies that make you a fan of his, I feel sorry for you. Even in his lesser movies like Swing Vote or The Guardian, he still delivers a believable performance.

Agreed. And if we're being asked, "What is your favorite Kevin Costner role?" why is "Not really much of a Costner fan" even a choice???

Field of Dreams

He has so many great roles as pointed out by many people here before myself. But Field of Dreams still provokes tears. THE WAR was another great movie of his not listed here. Not in it a lot...but some really great Father/Son moments with Frodo Baggins.

Definitely Elliot Ness, but I've always loved his role in A Perfect World (very underrated flick!) so that's my close second.

Though in hindsight Field of Dreams would run it damn close.

How to know when people are voting for a subject they don't know much about.

It's when films like "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" and "Waterworld" get more votes as the best roles of Kevin Costner over great roles like "JFK", "A Perfect World", and "Silverado". Really people? Those films?
Costner rocked it back in his younger years, and still does today.

Thirteen Days

He's has a lot of great roles. It's hard to choose just one. I just wanted to include Thirteen Days because it was another great one.

I've seen every Costner film on this list.

...And I was originally going to pick his version of "Robin Hood" (one of my favorite genre movies of the early 90's) That was until I remembered 1993's "A Perfect World".

I was born in 1981 and had always stuck to watching sci-fi, fantasy, action, adventure & animation. It wasn't until I saw this Clint Eastwood / Kevin Costner drama that I had my eyes opened to a whole new genre of movies. That's why it got my vote.

But Open Range, Dances w/ Wolves, Field Of Dreams & (yes) even

A Perfect World was great. That movie should have a lot more than 6 votes. It's my #1 Costner movie.

And it's sad that Man of Steel got some votes for the best Costner movie....So very sad and ridiculous.

i just realized he's in a lot of movies on to watch list. I still need to see "Untouchables", "Dances with Wolves", "Bull Durham" and a few others.

Because of that i had to go with "Field of Dreams". it may have won my vote by default, but its still a classic

You've got to watch The Untouchables. I think it's Brian DePalma's best and best Prohibition era movie.

yes you NEED to see those films. I really like him as an actor, and wish I could erase from my memory that I've seen any of his films, so I could watch them for the first time all over again.
