Wow, guys! I thought I had a lot, with about 200. Jeez. For those who have over a thousand, where the heck do you store them all?

I have well over a thousand, and that's a conservative estimate. I stopped counting years ago.

Ummm, let's see... I have...

Scratch (Hip-Hop Documentary)
Lock Stock & Two Smokin' Barrels
R2D2 - Beneath The Dome (Star Wars Mockumentary
Terje Haakenson - Subjekt Haakenson (Snowboard Video)
Star Wars Clone Wars - Season 1

Fuck hard copies of movies, they waste space (says the vinyl collector). I just keep my cinema on 7TB of HD.

I'm 25 now I have been collecting since I was old enough to have a job. I have around 400 now. The first DVD I ever bought was Frequency with my first paycheck.

I own 250 blu-rays and 150 dvd's (but there is a lot of overlap between the 2). I also have a wish list of movies I still want to buy one day, but that would be maybe another 200. Anything over 1000 boggles my mind. I sometimes have a hard enough time keeping up with current tv shows and movies, that its hard to go back and watch movies I own.

I'd guess it's around 500

I used to review movies (especially animation) for about 8 years so I got a lot of freebies through the studios.

I've definitely slowed down now, and it doesn't make sense with Netflix and iTunes available. But there are still some movies and TV shows that I love to have readily available.

I have about 70 DVDs. Not a lot, but that's not counting downloads.

Movie downloading/piracy is a big thing over here... You can get the latest releases in DVD quality for 2 bucks. So not many people actually buy them.

I own well above 2000 BRs and DVDs. I love the physical media- downloading/ streaming is fine and all, but it doesn't give me that same high, if you will.

I've got north of 2,000 (DVDs & Blu-rays; movies, TV shows, concerts, stand-up). I was very lucky, my brother used to do DVD reviews and the studios would send him everything, so I got a lot of freebies that way. I've trimmed down a lot over the years, but I really like having the collection. I never know when I'm going to want to go back and watch a movie again and I like having the option of doing so (I just recently felt like watching The Gauntlet with Clint Eastwood and I was able to do so

However, my wife and I are looking for a house right now and it's something I keep considering in the back of my mind: is there anywhere I'll actually be able to display these? Right now they're all in storage boxes and I'd like to get them back on a shelf, somewhere. I do take advantage of the iTunes download codes and watch them on the train on my iPad, but I always like knowing there's a physical version. Streaming will never replace that. The OCD collector in me won't allow it.

Blu rays are sleeker and I'm able to fit more on the shelf. There are a lot of movies that haven't transferred yet to blu (as well as some not on dvd yet- like Run from 1990) I love being able to have a physical copy and pop it in and not have to boot up my computer. Also, if you have sucky internet, streaming or downloading is not worth it. God forbid you lose your files. I don't trust something in the clouds that I have no control over either.

I LOVE Bluray, not for just the content(which is usually amazing) But also for the cool packaging. I upgraded alot of my dvds to blu rays but decided I wont do that again if the next format comes along. But I will continue to collect them probably long after it goes completely out of style. I enjoy looking at the titles on my shelf and being able to browse through them, it starts lots of film conversations with my friends. Maybe I'm old school, but thats my style. That being said, I'm not

I had close to 800 but over the course of last year that's now cut in half, as I just don't see the point any more. They have no value and take up way too much space.
i intend on getting rid of another couple of hundred over the next year, the goal being I'm left with 50-100 titles of films/box sets I really cherish.

best advice - just think of what you cannot live without seeing again - keep it. if its a movie that you will probably only watch one more time or never, it goes.

I am trying to downsize big time - I have a lot of work ahead of me!
the thing is I am a bit addicted to horror movies - I cannot let them go - even if they suck! so I have at least 500 or so that I cannot get rid of.

I am looking to stop getting so many tho as Mr Kurtz pointed out, there is hardly time enough to watch them all again and there is no resale value. I try to stream stuff if I can now. I still buy the big releases, like Hobbit and Captain America etc. But for smaller movies I have to cut down.

I look at the photo above and all I think is what an utter waste of money that all is... Blu Rays have no increase in value once you buy them and chances are you will not go back and watch the majority of a collection that size basically ever. My collection is up to around 300 and I have decided to stop buying, sticking to streaming now...

YOU ARE CORRECT! I have tried to sell off some doubles - you get NOTHING for them. I was selling movies for 2 bucks and NO ONE wants them.

I have so many that if I tried and go back to watch them all I wont be able too! I have to downsize my collection big time!

Why should it matter the value of one's dvd's/blurays?? Its all about the love of movies. Everything can't be streamed and if it is streamed then you have to worry about the quality of the bandwidth. C'Mon Maaaaaaannn we do it FOR THA LOVE!!!!!!!

haha, it is for the love - but after a while space becomes an issue. when I lived at home I had uber space, now I have a 2 bedroom condo and one room is filled with movies only! - I have NO SPACE left!

Anyway I would never give up my collection, I am just monitoring it! I used to buy ANYTHING MAN! Especially horror films - am a sucker for anything - even if it sucks. I had over 450 vhs movies before I got my 3251 dvds/blurays - I will never stop buying, but I have to control myself!

Right now I would realistically estimate my collection at around 400 DVD's/Blu-Rays. If I would have kept all the shitty movies I've bought over the years the total would be closer to 700-800.
