Oldboy gets snatched

09.24.2004

Now while there still doesn't appear to be a definite date set for its release, it does appear as though my favorite movie of the year so far (and many other people's as well...it basically received the runner-up prize at this year's Cannes Film Festival-- you know, the one over which Quentin Tarantino presided), will finally see the light of day in North America , as British distributor Tartan Films, has apparently scooped up the film rights to OLDBOY (read my review here). Tartan hasn't announced any date for the film's release just yet, but they also happened to pick up two other films for distribution at this year's Toronto Film Festival, including Todd Solondz's PALINDROMES and Takashi Shimizu's (THE GRUDGE), MAREBITO...a surreal vampire flick. These guys seem to be gearing themselves to go up against indie kings Lion's Gate Films (they apparently want to release between 12-14 films Stateside annually), so keep your eyes and ears open for them and I'll let you know if I hear anything more definite about OLD BOY! Check out the film's OFFICIAL JAPANESE WEBSITE here.
