Dyn-o-Mite!

10.20.2004

Finally a movie starring my favorite canine Inspector Gadget wrip-off Dyno-Mutt and his partner Blue Falcon! Oh wait.... it's not Dyno-Mutt it's Dyn-o-Mite as in a feature remake of the sitcom GOOD TIMES. Well, that's just as good (so long as they keep the theme song intact). Many people had tried to option the rights to GOOD TIMES in the past - Magic Johnson, Wesley Snipes and Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds - but relative unknown Creative Production Group was able to secure rights by tracking down co-creator Mike Evans. Evans had refused to sign off on any previous deals because negotiations were primarily with his former partner Eric Monte. CPG went to Evans first though and once they got his approval, they were able to wrestle the rights away from Columbia who had a right of last refusal deal. GOOD TIMES became popular primarily because of Jimmy Walker's "dynomite!" catch phrase but the show was much more than that. In fact, Monte was so upset the network wanted to show to be a gimmick and stereotype of African-American life, he wound up quitting the show with John Amos leaving shortly thereafter (they killed his character off in the show). Since the deal has just been struck, the next step is to find a suitable writer and director to develop the project. No clue on when filming might begin or who CPG might look to to distribute the film.
