The Latest Announcements

Donnie Darko (Director's Cut) - February 15

Apparently director Richard Kelly and Kevin Smith are friends, which is why Kev shows up on the commentary track, pretty much guaranteeing it'll be funny and peppered with "f*cks" and some kind of latent homosexual observation with Donnie and the wormhole. If you ever get the chance to ask Richard Kelly a question at a Q&A or something, ask him what a "reverse ghost" is. That is if you're in the masochistic kind of mood, as he'll chastise and belittle you in front of everyone because supposedly a "reverse ghost" is common knowledge...to him at least.

Disc One: Main Feature

  • Audio Commentary with Writer/Director Richard Kelly and Kevin Smith
  • 2.35:1 Anamorphic Widescreen
  • English DD5.1 & 2.0 Surround
  • English and Spanish subtitles
Disc Two: Extra Features
  • Production Diary (with optional commentary by Director of Photography Steven Poster)
  • Story-board to screen featurette
  • Director’s cut theatrical trailer
  • They Made Me Do It Too – The Cult of Donnie Darko
  • #1 Fan: A Darkomentary

Frank the Bunny tried using the ol' "penis sticking through the bottom of the popcorn box" trick on Jena Malone, who promptly fell asleep.

Monster (SE) - January 25

Tentative specs on this include an audio commentary with Director Patty Jenkins, Producer Clark Petersen and Charlize Theron, a selection of deleted and extended scenes and a Monster: The Vision and the Journey featurette, but nothing is set in stone yet. Stay tuned to Joblo.com for final specs and gratuitous pictures of semi-nude women.

The Shield (S3) - February 22

I'll take everyone's word that this show is "bombastic" and it's "what The Sopranos use to be" and it's "raw and unfiltered". I'm still trying to catch up on old episodes of Hill Street Blues. Just to give you an idea of how behind on the times I am.

  • Bottom Bitch - Commentary by Scott Brazil, Michael Chiklis, Adam E. Fierro and Michael Jace
  • Deleted Scenes With Optional Commentary by writer Shawn Ryan on 4 episodes
  • Mum - Commentary by Walton Goggins, Michael Hicks, Benito Martinez, Shawn Ryan and Kurt Sutter
  • Slipknot - Commentary by Michael Chicklis, Walton Goggins, Kenneth Johnson, and David Snell
  • Fire in the Hole - Commentary by Catherine Dent, Nicki Micheaux, CCh Pounder, and Cathy Cahlin Ryan
  • 1.33:1 Full Frame
  • English, French and Spanish Dolby Surround

The Fifth Element (SE)/Leon (SE) - January 11

Luc Besson is aces all around with me. The Fifth Element is an underrated gem of a movie and Leon is a classic and with special editions of each coming around the bend, I'll be a happy camper come January. Mostly because I'm on loads of Xanax.

The Fifth Element features include:

  • High definition anamorphic widescreen transfer
  • Star Element featurette
  • Visual Element featurette
  • Digital Element featurette
  • Alien Element featurette
  • Fashion Element featurette
  • Camera, costume and set tests
  • Feature length fact track

Leon features include:

  • Unrated international version in a Superbit™ presentation
  • Ten year reunion featurette entitled The Professional
  • Trial by Fire: Natalie Portman As Mathilda - featurette
  • Full length Leon fact track
  • Birth of a Star: Jean Reno As Leon - featurette

Bruce Willis poses for the cover of the porn classic, "The Filth Element".

Notables

Philadelphia (SE): The beginning of Hanks' Oscar trailblazing. Denzel looks at his hand in a contemplative way. 11/2

Fast Times at Ridgemont High (SE): Sean Penn should really do more comedy and lighten up a bit. But I won't tell him that cuz he might hurt me. 11/2

Mullholland Falls: A damn fine movie with a cast of tough guys not seen since Reservoir Dogs. Or Tootsie. 11/2

The Stepford Wives: Crappity-crap-crapola. A+ for Nicole Kidman. 11/9
