F4 not comedy?

11.10.2004

One thing that's been keeping fans perturbed about the upcoming FANTASTIC FOUR adaptation is reports that the movie will be a goofball comedy. The fact that Tim Story, who's mostly known for comedy, had been hired as director didn't really help to put fanboy minds at rest. However, comic scribe and novelist Peter David, has recently mentioned on his official blog that the movie will not be the goofball comedy that's been reported. He says "as for the FF film, I can tell you with authority (but without going into detail) that it is not at all the goofball comedy as first reported, but instead faithful in tone and style to the Lee/Kirby comics. There's some major changes in terms of the origin, but less than what they did in "Ultimate FF," and besides, c'mon--four people trying to get to the moon before the Russians? Just a TAD dated. How do I know this? Because I've been hired by Pocket Books to do the novelization of the film. So this'll be my fourth novelization of a Marvel comics movie." While this is not conclusive evidence that the movie won't be a goofball comedy as the movie making process is dynamic and always changing, it does help to alleviate some fears that the filmmakers aren't setting out to make a serious faithful adaptation.
