Kloves off Potter

11.11.2004

Writer Steve Kloves, who has scripted all of the HARRY POTTER movies to date in addition to the forthcoming GOBLET OF FIRE, will step aside after that fourth film. Coming Soon! talked to POTTER producer David Heyman who said that Kloves left to return to a career directing. Kloves wrote and directed the successful FABULOUS BAKER BOYS. Kloves and Heyman will still continue to work together though as they will team on Kloves' next film THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME, an adaptation of Mark Haddon's novel. Taking over for Kloves as writer of HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX will be Michael Goldenberg (CONTACT, PETER PAN). Mike Newell is currently filming GOBLET OF FIRE and Mira Nair (VANITY FAIR) was rumored to be directing PHOENIX. Also up in the air was the status of the film's three stars who said when AZKABAN was released that they weren't sure if GOBLET would be their last film or not. The latest book in the HARRY POTTER series, "The Half-Blood Prince" may be ready for release at the end of next year.
