Newbie for Potter 5

11.19.2004

First off, please ignore the repeated use of the PRISONER OF AZKABAN book cover as the image for my recent Harry Potter articles. I'm just too lazy to do any more research for a new pic. Now onto the news. Is Warner Bros. getting in on the Project Greenlight action for their HARRY POTTER films? After using three relatively high-profile directors for the first four films, the studio is going low-key (and I mean really low-key) for the fifth film, HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX. I have a feeling you won't be seeing a title card in the trailer that reads: from writer Michael Goldenberg and director David Yates.... After the news last week that writer Steve Kloves wouldn't return for PHOENIX, it was announced that Goldenberg would take over writing duties. Now the director has been announced and it's...David Yates? If the name doesn't sound familiar it's because he's only got one film credit to his name and it was the curiously titled THE TICHBORNE CLAIMANT. So how exactly did he get this gig? Apparently producers liked his work on British TV like "The Way We Live Now." At the rate they're going now, maybe I'll be in consideration to direct HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE cause the WB likes my writing. Well best of luck to Mr. Goldenberg and Mr. Yates in their endeavor. GOBLET OF FIRE, under the director of Mike Newell, hits theaters this summer.
