Trio join King's Men

11.22.2004

Last week it was reported that Meryl Streep was dropping out of the Sean Penn/Jude Law flick ALL THE KING'S MEN with a replacement forthcoming. That certainly didn't take long as just a few days later Columbia has announced Oscar-nominee Patricia Clarkson (PIECES OF APRIL) will replace Streep in the role of Sadie the aide to Sean Penn's politician Willie Stark. In addition to Clarkson, the film also adds Anthony Hopkins and James Gandolfini to the cast. Hopkins will star as Judge Monte Stanton and Gandolfini as Tiny Duffy. Kate Winslet and Mark Ruffalo also have roles in the film, which is set to begin production early next year. Oscar-winner Steven Zaillian wrote the script and will direct the adaptation of the Robert Penn Warren novel. Clarkson can be seen next Halloween in THE WOODS, the follow-up film from MAY director Lucky McKee. Hopkins has a small role in ALEXANDER opening on Wednesday and Gandolfini is guzzling down egg-nog hoping to forget about SURVIVING CHRISTMAS.
