6 minute sneak peek of Ant-Man in front of IMAX screenings of Jurassic World

06.08.2015

Marvel Studios is not going to take any chances with ANT-MAN. After a much publicized rocky start to production that saw Edgar Wright depart and Peyton Reed take over as director, the studio has been working tirelessly to market ANT-MAN as the next chapter in their interconnected universe. You can tell the studio really wants to drive home the fact that the Paul Rudd-led superhero film is related to the Avengers as they showed in the most recent TV spot. Now, they are giving fans an early chance to spread the buzz.

Marvel Studios will debut six minutes of footage from ANT-MAN in front of IMAX screenings of JURASSIC WORLD this weekend. JURASSIC WORLD is shaping up to be a critic-proof blockbuster with fans of the franchise turning out in droves. With a likely opening weekend north of $50 million, Marvel is hedging their bets that showcasing ANT-MAN will build word of mouth in the final month leading to it's release. Marvel did not make a similar marketing movie with the unknown GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY and that film went on to be an incredible success.

I have a sneaking suspicion that despite wanting ANT-MAN to be awesome that it is going to fall short of the other films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I am excited to see it and have loved the trailers so far, but I have this gut feeling that it is going to suck. Marvel has invested too much into the character to abandon it completely and with Paul Rudd appearing in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, I think he is here to stay for a while. But, I am worried that this is going to be bad. I hope I am wrong.

ANT-MAN opens on July 17th.

I don't think it'll be bad....

I just think it'll be average. Some pretty good laughs, some cool visuals, and some decent action. But when they announced the film I said it was going to be average (and would under-perform at the box office) from the beginning. It's a C-list character, and the only cool power is for him to become giant, which only matters if he's fighting an Avengers-level threat. Making it a small film is going to be okay, but the writing would have to be exceptional to make it an event kind of film.

That wasn't going to be any different with Wright as the director (it's not like his other films have been overwhelming successes).

It was also a bad idea to skip the origin story. Iron Man works because you like Stark and love his inventions and discovery. Lang is just an ordinary guy wearing the suit. So where is the drama? Where is the reason to care? It's a story about the invention of incredible technology, except the invention happens long before the film, and the creator is going to die soon, leaving a nobody in charge of his legacy

At this point, why wouldn't Marvel do all that they can to promote the film (certainly can't hurt). And I'll be seeing Jurassic World in IMAX, so it'll be cool to see a little preview of the film and what type of tone it actually is.

Marvel has never done this

I think they arent entirely TOOOOOO confident in their product because it's a very lesser known product. Sure Guardians of the Galaxy was almost unkn, but youc ould pitch it. Superheroes in space. Ant man.....a guy who can be the size of an ant. Is much harder to pitch to the general public.,
