As much as I love The Avengers and James Bond, it's pretty obvious is terms of revenue that Star Wars will be the clear winner.

Star Wars will win biggest domestic opening ever, biggest opening weekend ever, and likely biggest box office numbers of all time. But specifically internationally, I think Avengers might have it beat. This movie filmed all over the world and there's huge interest in these characters on other continents, whereas the US is way more interested in Star Wars than any other country. I just think Avengers have a bigger international appeal.

Age of ultron will make more money in the opening weekend. But Star Wars will gross more in the long run. It's all in the merchandizing.

The only guarantee is that Disney will be rolling in it.

Star Wars

Avengers will make big money, no doubt about it, and I'm surprised at how much money Furious 7 has gotten (especially being non-3D), but all my bets are on Star Wars. The build up for SW is huge. The trailers have been fantastic, the generation that went to see the originals will go see the new ones because of returning characters, all students will be on Christmas break, JJ Abrams is a proven director, and the December release date is a smart move because it will literally have no

Avatar had approximately the same release date and we all know what happened with that.

Domestic: Star Wars
Worldwide: Avengers

You people have no idea what you are talking about. Young people in Asia have never heard of Star Wars. People here only went to see Guardians of the Galaxy because it was literally promoted as "Avengers in space".

Avengers has the best shot... but then again I don't think it will earn as much as the first one. The first one was an event - it's the first time something like this ever happened. Now that's gone. Depending on how much less it will make, the number one movie might also be... Furious 7. It will end up 4th, maybe 3rd at the worldwide box office when all is said and done. Another film that will earn a billion is Hunger Games.

Star Wars probably won't make a billion.

That's my prediction:
1) Avengers
2) Furious 7
3) Hunger Games
4) SPECTRE
5) Minions
6) Star Wars
7) Inside Out
8) The Good Dinosaur

"it's the first time something like this ever happened"

It's been done before on smaller scales: Freddy vs Jason, Alien vs Predator, Dracula vs. Frankenstein (1971), King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962) and so on. It's just that movie superheroes are not as well established as movie monsters otherwise it would have been done much sooner.

Those movies didn't have a build up of five different movies. They were slapt together just for fan-service. Something like Avengers hasn't been done.

The closest one was probably Freddy vs Jason which had a tease way back with Jason Goes To Hell but that's more like coincidence than planning.

Star Wars or Avengers?

either way, Disney is laughing straight to the bank this year.

STAR WARS will dominate this year

AVENGERS will make some serious $$$, but I'm hearing some rumbles of over-saturation when it comes to comic book-based films. As others have mentioned, this is the first STAR WARS movie in 10 years, and the first to feature the original leads in over 30 years. Even if it stinks (unlikely), fans will watch it twice just to make sure whether or not it's a turd.
But, with Lawrence Kasdan writing the script, I doubt it. THE FORCE AWAKENS is going to be a monster.

I think Avengers will beat Star Wars, but not by much, depends on which one is the better movie. Either way Disney is gonna make a killing this year.

Yeah, and that's just domestic / international box office alone, excluding all the toy sales.

Star Wars

"Star Wars" will likely be the top-grosser worldwide. I think "Avengers" and "Spectre" will be 2nd and 3rd.

Star Wars

Star Wars without a doubt. The first star wars movie in a decade, and the first with the original cast since the 80's. Even with people complaining about the prequels, they still made a lot of money. Also, this movie is coming out in December with little competition in terms of blockbusters, so it will be around much longer than the summer movies which have a new big movie coming out almost every week. #2 could go to either Avengers or the Final Hunger Games movie. Don't forget the last 2

I'm dying to see how this all plays out. Furious 7 is a monster right now, and SPECTRE and Jurassic World both have an outside chance to gross over $1 billion (though I think Jurassic World will sort of be a flop, unfortunately). The race will obviously come down to Age of Ultron vs The Force Awakens...but I don't think it's all that silly to think that both movies could end up with $2 billion each. I give the edge to Star Wars, only because of its notoriously crazy fanbase, but Age of Ultron

Even if Star Wars is a massive turd, it will still make tons of money. It will probably even break a few records. The Phantom Menace did over $1 bil. worldwide. I expect the same for the new film, especially with all the other Star Wars stuff that's happening: Rebels, Battlefront, etc. Both new fans and old fans will be rushing to the film. I'm not even expecting to be able to see it opening night. I'd wager that it may very well be the biggest film of the decade.

Star Wars

The others will make sick bank but Star Wars is just going to dominate. On top of being an established and beloved franchise, it has new blood that looks like it is injecting the universe with something new and fresh.

Age of Ultron and Spectre will likely each bring in 1 billion +, but I'm honestly expecting Force Awakens to gross 3 billion +. We are talking about generations of people who will see the film. Grandfathers, fathers, sons, etc. will all see this film. Plus the aspect of having Han, Luke, and Leia back and the original/organic "feel" it looks to have will enhance the attraction. The Star Wars franchise is incalculably large.

Even the highest grossing movie ever, which I believe is Avatar, barely crossed 2 billion, so saying Star Wars will cross 3 billion is a bit of a stretch.

People may love Star Wars

...but a lot of folks still feel burned by the prequels. Avengers has nearly universal goodwill and all the individual films were monster successes. Nothing will top Age of Ultron.

Some of us are burned out by ALL the same old standard Marvel film, after film, after film. There's been more Marvel films released in a over the course of the last 7 years than there have been Star Wars films, most of which were too rushed in production to be anything more than average.
