WEEKEND BOX-OFFICE

That's right...
celebrate, you fockin' Fockers!!

It seems as though people just can't get enough of those fockin' Fockers, as the clash of cultures remained atop the box-office for a second week in a row, with a massive take of over $42M in the past three days alone. At the same time, MEET THE FOCKERS upped its overall total to $163M (wow, when did that happen?), assuring that the sequel would surpass its original by far (MEET THE PARENTS made $166M). I guess I might've been right in calling a third film in this obviously very popular series: MEETING THE FOCKINí KIDS.

FOCKERS also broke two New Year's weekend records, with a $12.2M haul on Friday, beating CAST AWAY's four-year old record of $8.5M on New Year's Eve, and surprisingly crushing the New Year's Day record set by those nutty hobbits in RETURN OF THE KING, which had the previous record of $12.8M, and was beaten by the FOCKERS' $18M on Saturday alone. The rest of the top 10 didn't change much, with most films from last week remaining in the same position, and making the same amount of moolah. There were no new releases this week, so no major surprises other than DARKNESS remaining in the top 10 and THE LIFE AQUATIC dropping to 11th spot.

Next week is yet another slow week (the first two weeks of January are generally reserved for studios' "dump" flicks), with the release of Michael Keaton's WHITE NOISE and that's about it. I guess it's time for us to catch up on all those films that we missed in December, eh? Or maybe not.
