Web voices cast

01.19.2005

The upcoming live-action/CGI-animated adaptation of the classic children's novel CHARLOTTE'S WEB has added an impressive voice cast to play it's group of farm animals. Julia Roberts leads the pack and will voice the title character, a spider named Charlotte who looks to save a little pig named Wilbur. Other notables joining the cast are Oprah Winfrey (in a rare movie role) as Gussy the barn's maternal goose; John Cleese as Samuel the sheep; Steve Buscemi as the barn's sardonic Rat Templeton; Cedric The Entertainer opposite Oprah as the other Goose - Golly; Reba McEntire and Kathy Bates as the barn's cows Betsy and Bitsy; and Thomas Haden Church and Andre Benjamin (of OutKast fame) will voice Brooks and Elwyn, two dimwitted cows. Dakota Fanning will star in the live-action portion of the film as Fern, the little girl living on the farm. Filming will begin at the end of the month in Melbourne for Paramount and Nickelodeon Films. Gary Winick (13 GOING ON 30) will direct the film with a script by Susannah Grant (ERIN BROCKOVICH).
